Contender? No. 4 seed in the West? Maybe, which is not too shabby with the current state of the West.
Why do you think that? There are some crazy people in this thread predicting 4th seed and saying they're better than the Rockets... so there's not a united "we all think" view here. I'm sticking to 7th seed as their ceiling, and probably 10th as their floor, barring significant injuries anyway.
LOL Chandler Parsons does not make them go from 8 seed to contender, especially when their PG is Raymond friggin' Felton. Tyson Chandler isn't what he once was either.
4th seed?!? They're old as dirt and don't have anybody to compete with the true athletes in the West. They'll be hovering around 6-8 with a chance at the 5 seed. Ultimately, I see them finishing in 6th, with a date with the Clippers or the Rockets in the first round.
Whoever says they are contenders are dead wrong. IMO trading calderon/dalembert for chandler/felton is a lateral move at best, and adding Parsons (while losing Carter/Marion won't move them from 8 seed to top 4. They will be better than last year IMO maybe 6-7 seed, but not legit championship contenders (no way they can beat OKC, LAC, SAS).
Suns and mavs beef on Twitter: The Suns, tweeted "@Suns: Hey @dallasmavs, Has anyone pitched Summer League back up big men to @mcuban on #SharkTank? Could use a few for 4th Q." The Mavs tweeted in response: "@DallasMavs: .@Suns great idea. Why didn't we think of that? #fail" And then Mark Cuban chimes in with "@mcuban: @Suns @dallasmavs rule #1 of social media. Never insult another team and it's players when you are down 22 points #MFFL" The Suns replied, "@Suns: @mcuban We weren't. We were saying we could use the back up bigs. We're down three centers/forwards." As of now, the Suns have deleted both tweets.
Mavs will likely be better than the Rockets. Still not contender as that road has to go through the Thunder, Spurs, and likely the Clips.
50-52 win team is a very fair assessment is coaching and health stays solid. Taking a 2 year gamble for a guy who could grow even better with a heavier workload isn't that bad a risk given that Dirk could conceivably break down in that span and retire. Fans like marquee white guys, so that might dampen an extra mill or two of "contract overpricedness". Of course, if the max is 20 mil by then, the Mavs set a pretty bad precedent on themselves and Bird Rights is the least of their issues...
Anybody see what Dwight said about chandler? https://twitter.com/micahth3prophet/status/490260740826083328
Couldn't find an offseason thread for the Mavs: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Dallas Mavericks, I'm told, are in serious talks to hire former Denver Nuggets coach Melvin Hunt as an assistant to Rick Carlisle</p>— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) <a href="https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/611934685355094018">June 19, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
