Actually, I'm pretty sure Andre is the only one still left.

Dumbest metric in all of sports. Especially football, though.

*Nothing against the OP of that stat.
I agree, its irrelevant to say team A hasnt beat team B since 1980 or something like that, especially when they only played 4 games in that span.

Its dumb.

Eh, it's more of an interesting stat to talk about than anything else. Yeah it has no bearing on this game, but it would be nice to start 3-0 and break that string also. I blame Anna Megan Raley on that as I saw her blog on it.

I think our defense will hold nicely. I am worried about Derek Newton going up against Von Miller. I think we should do what we did to Indy in 2010 with Peyton. Run the ball at their pass rushers. Their secondary is not as good as they may claim.

Watt: I want No. 18 on my Sack List

Quote:
Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has turned into a ball-batting machine, and that’s something he knows will be important against a quarterback who gets the ball out as fast as Peyton Manning.

But he has a different goal in mind for Sunday’s trip to Denver.

“I want to have No. 18 on my sack list,” Watt said. “That’s my goal.”

Watt, who has three sacks and five passes defensed so far this season, was named the AFC’s defensive player of the week for his performance against the Jaguars, which included 1.5 sacks.

When the Texans drafted him, he was told he’d be facing Peyton Manning twice a year with the goal of stopping him. He didn’t get that chance his rookie season, which Manning missed. Now Watt anticipates the chance to finally do that.

“I’ve always said you want the best,” Watt said. “You don’t earn your stripes playing against inferior competition you want to play against the best every single time and that’s a chance to prove yourself.”

Manning is a tricky quarterback to face. He’s very active pre-snap at the line of scrimmage and post-snap he is extremely skilled at avoiding sacks. The Colts offensive line was very deficient during Manning’s tenure there, but it really didn’t matter.

Because of that, Watt figures his ball-batting ability will be crucial.

“You’re not going to sack him every play so you need to get your hands up in the passing lanes, hopefully frustrate him,” Watt said. “But he is a veteran quarterback, he’s seen that before, he knows people are going to try and bat his passes down. That’s another challenge. I’m excited about it. But I want to sack him, too.”

A Texans win would be Gary Kubiak's 50th as head coach (regular season).

Matt Schaub needs 1 passing TD to reach 100 for his career.

Andre Johnson needs 204 receiving yards for 10,000 in his career.

Game Release

Injury Report (updated after practice on Thursday and Friday)

Uniform: white jersey, blue pants

TV Distribution Map (Texans game in red -- 2nd CBS game)

Win Probability Graph (will be live shortly after kickoff)

Weather forecast: Partly Cloudy with a 0% chance of rain. High around 80. Winds from the NNW at 9 mph.

Go Texans!

NTIRM(Not that it really matters) but PFT likes the Texans

Texans at Broncos

MDS’s take: The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Broncos, heading back home to host the team that most of us think is the best in the AFC. Denver’s run defense may be good enough to contain Arian Foster, but the pass defense is going to struggle against Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson, and Owen Daniels.

MDS’s pick: Texans 21, Broncos 20.

Florio’s take: The Falcons have given the Texans the blueprint for beating the Broncos: Force Peyton Manning to throw it deep. The fact that J.J. Watt is ready to swat any and all short throws makes it even more important for Peyton to try to get the ball down the field. Key word: try.

Florio’s pick: Texans 26, Broncos 17.

is that the same Florio who picked the Texans to miss the playoffs and the titans to win the division?

Yeah, but to be fair, in his weekly power rankings, he called himself an idiot for picking the Titans to win the division and placed them 29th or something. Lol.

Wade Phillips defense against Manning

Manning vs. Wade Phillips' defenses

Peyton Manning is 5-4 against defenses coached by Wade Phillips, averaging 242 yards per game with 15 TDs and 10 INTs. Here's a breakdown by year:

Year W-L Yds TD Int
1998 L 235 2 2
1998 L 164 1 2
1999 W 284 2 2
1999 L 163 0 0
1999 W 187 2 1
1999 W 132 0 0
2003 W 290 5 0
2004 W 383 2 1
2005 L 336 1 2

Quote:
The Atlanta Falcons defense was shapeless for a long time against Peyton Manning, disguising for as long as possible before players got to their spots.

It was very effective at confusing Manning, who struggled against the Falcons.

But it doesn't mean Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will be adopting an amoeba defense in a week.

The Texans are a good defense doing their own thing.

“I thought they were outstanding a year ago,” Denver Broncos coach John Fox said this week. “I think Wade has done a fantastic job. They’ve got good personnel. They play very hard. They play very sound. The two looks we’ve got in the regular season, they’ve been outstanding as well. We expect a very talented, tough defense coming to Denver.”

I asked Katie Sharp of ESPN Stats and Info to pull together what Phillips’s defenses have done against Manning. It’s not been great.

“They have a different defensive coordinator since the last time I played them -- I didn’t play last year since Coach Phillips has gotten there -- and they have some new players,” Manning told Houston media on a conference call this week. “They sure are playing well, that certainly jumps out on film, and guys flying around and really doing a lot of good things on defense, so it’ll be a tough challenge...

“A very well-coached defense, very disciplined. You have to have certain types of players to make that defense work and he has those guys at certain spots, and you can see how it’s all working together with the scheme and with the players, so that’s why they’re playing really well right now, in my opinion.”

Phillips will certainly want to confuse Manning -- when isn’t that the key to beating a good quarterback? But while the Texans can bring pressure from different spots, they’re awfully talented. If they beat the Broncos and Manning I think we’ll be talking more about players than scheme.

There's a growing consensus among pundits that the Texans are the class of the AFC right now, and it's hard to argue otherwise at this point -- really no apparent weaknesses to complain about, unlike other teams like Baltimore and New England that are showing cracks.

I'm really, really, REALLY hoping that Kareem Jackson figures out how to turn his head on deep balls between last week and this. Manning is the type to key in on that tendency and exploit it. The thing is, Manning's arm still seems a bit weak and I don't think he can make the deep throw like he needs to. So if Kareem doesn't turn his head because he is afraid of getting outrun, then forget about that. Odds are you will have to pull up to make a play on the ball anyway, but you won't make any kind of play if you don't turn and find it. I think, like Atlanta, the key to getting Manning will be trying to force him to make deeper throws, but that will only work against KJ if he plays the deep ball correctly.
