Dwight listed it as one of his preferred destinations and Cuban acted accordingly.

He won a championship, decided to put a rag-tag team together in order to sign Dwight and Deron long-term and secure a competitive franchise long-term. It was a smart decision it just didn't pan out, like a lot of things.

A core of Dwight, Dirk, Deron would have made the Mavericks a virtual WCF shoe-in for years.

In retrospect he probably should have signed on Tyson Chandler long-term and he could have made a bid on the Dwight sweepstakes but that would've involved an incredible amount of luck in anticipating that the Dwightmare would have went down like it did.
In other words Cubans plan failed, Dwight went to la and is mostly gonna sign there, deron stayed in new jersey, terry bolted to the Celtics and Kidd signed with the Knicks. Now Cuban is left with oj mayo and the corpses of Elton brand and Chris Kaman. That's at best a 6th seed in the west....at best.

Let Chandler, Barea, Butler, Haywood, Kidd, Mahinmi, Stevenson, Terry go...

...We're happy we didn't end up with Williams or Howard.

I call it the WBA strategy of hoping to overpay a star player in Free Agency.

and what did that get him in return? oh an acknowledgement of it being a legitimate gripe by some dude whose profile name is "carl herrera" and a pg who treated it like a business (despite the perceived treatment he got)

quick the league should all change their philosophies, they will still lost the player but carl herrera on clutch fans will allow you to be mad about it

Mark Cubutthurt is crying over the loss of a 39 year old point guard. Wow...

Much like our Dwightmare the Mav's plan failed and Kidd saw suck written all over the wall. Kidd had every right to go to the Knicks if he wanted to and didn't owe the Mavs anything.

The face that he won't put Kidd's jersey in the rafter, sounds so female genitalia.

Loyalty
How does loyalty enter the equation when talking about Chandler? The guy played 1 year with the Mavs as basically a mercenary. On the other hand, when Cuban decided to reacquire Kidd for Devin Harris, it was hard to see the logic in that move. You could easily argue that it made the Mavs worse. In fact I don't see how the Mavs fail to still win the title w/o Kidd.

Cuban, during an appearance Tuesday morning on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's "Ben & Skin Show," said the Mavs actually might be better off without Williams, the homegrown talent and three-time All-Star the Mavs hotly pursued in free agency. Cuban claimed a max contract for Williams would have created tricky salary-cap ramifications and made it difficult to build a championship-caliber roster around him and Mavs stalwart Dirk Nowitzki.
Cuban is absolutely right here. Paying the max for a point guard is an easy way to eliminate yourself from title contention. I don't know why owners/GMs think they have to do it just because everyone else does.

Watch that big little kid Cuban calms down years from now will be smooching Kidd. Not because bridge under water, but because Kidd will be elgible for HOF and Cuban will seek him out for exposure.

Huh, imagine that! So its not just the ROX who end up getting buttraped by the big markets. So I guess all those posters who keep claiming that players don't want to come to Houston because Morey treats everyone like an asset don't know what they're talking about
