That's what I'm thinking. He tore both his ACL and MCL. His first year was pretty good. If the Bengals released him, it might be because he's not fully recovered.

The PFT report mentioned he's still been having trouble with his knee.

Could just be a numbers game and he needs another year to recover. Who knows.

At least we won't have to hear all the Longhorn homers tell us he's every bit as good as Wes Welk... oh. Still happening.

Apparently the knee isn't responding as he or the team would like.

He started training camp on the Active/PUP list but was running with the third team for much of the preseason. Following Thursday night’s game at Atlanta, Shipley was walking to the bus with an icepack on the knee as he continued to have problems with it.

Said offensive coordinator Jay Gruden of Shipley: ”He’s doing everything right. He’s coming to treatment, he’s working hard. He knows what to do. I think he will tell you he’s not quite there yet. He’s getting closer. He made some plays (on Tuesday). It’s a tough deal for him. I know how good he was and how good he thinks he should be. In his mind he’s not quite there.”

Shipley was the Bengals slot receiver going into camp, but the knee never responded and he didn’t show any burst or quickness coming off the line. With the competition at receiver and the emergence of Andrew Hawkins in the slot, it was better to waive Shipley now to see if he can catch on with another team.


He'll catch on somewhere.

Shipley it seems is one of the rare players these days who is having trouble with his knee after reconstructive surgery. It's kind of a wake up call because it seems like guys are ready to go 8 months after surgery with modern tech. I think Shipley probably represents the majority - though we don't hear about the failures as much these days.

Too bad for Shipley. He had 2 ACL injuries at Texas too.

I doubt he does until the spring. Not many teams are eager to sign a guy just to put him on PUP or IR. This is a guy that was fighting to stick as a WR3 to begin with.

I do hope he fully recovers and bounces back.
