I don't remember Brooks saying this baking Rafer up. Or Lowry backing Brooks up. Or Dragic backing Lowry up. Just play hard when you get the opportunity to and don't say anything that would jeopardize your chance of getting in the game.

You have a problem with that statement, seriously?
I think " Hopefully I can make the roster" would be better for him at this point.

" It’s a business and they’re going to do what they’re going to do.'

that's a serious whining from a player not even in NBA.

I don't take a single word of this article at face value.

Those of you ragging on Machado or Lin are missing the manipulation going on here.

What an idiot. Most things he said was fine until he said this. He's implying that because Lin is Asian, it's the only reason why he'll be starting over him. Please, STFU and get signed to a team first.

Great thread. Hopefully the players invited to camp are as fired up. Effective point guard play is predicated on confidence. Confidence in your teammates and in your ability to react appropriately. Nothing worse than tentative play from a point guard. Key points to remember are that point guards are the slowest to be productive (assists) as it takes time to learn teammates movements and preferences on receiving the ball. I hate hearing point guards being rated/judged primarily by scoring. Better to watch for improvement in overall play when they are on the floor over a number of games with the same supporting cast. Did the team play improve over time? Do their teammates show confidence in their play? Take the long view versus the short view in judging Lin, Douglas, Machado, etc. I hope they all come to camp with a chip on their shoulders and that drives them to be the best they can. Be optimistic. Best case is the Rockets end up with three (3) competent point guards who push each other. If the NY Daily News provides added incentive that is great. In my opinion it would be better for members of this forum to not "trash" one player over another, but rather hope they all respond accordingly. Also, remember how young most of these players are and things that came out of our mouths at that age. We all learn by life's experiences. Just my two cents.

NBA scouts and coaches just aren't as smart a you or Steven A. Smith.

Lin was not the starting point guard on Harvard.

Lin is going on his third year in the league. Machado hasn't even played a game yet. Who is to say that Machado won't be better in that same time? He certainly has the time to prove it. As for now, from the bench he shall come.

Lol. True say. I really don't think there was anything wrong with what he said. The media is very good at driving an agenda plus Machado is looking out for his interests and his only just like every other player. Don't hate the player hate the game.

He's jealous...machado looked good but jst becausehe has good handles and passing but sucks at shooting doesn't make him a true pg. A true pg has to be good all around lol...and he's undrafted so he should be a little bit more humble or he's gna be cut.

By your logic, Nash's in the league for 20 years. Lin has played for 2 years and already had a better start in his career. So who is to say that Lin won't be better than Nash in that time? Why was there an outrage whenever people said this?

BTW, from what I know, Machado has yet to get a nba contract. He would be lucky if he had the chance to be on the bench in the nba. Lol.

Machado had a below average performance in the rookie summer league and from what I saw, he did not stand out or even dominate against other rookies! As one of the previous post said, right now, sure he can be a starter…for the development league. There's a reason why he went undrafted.

Personally, I wouldn't ever dare mention about wanting a starter's position even if the reporter asked leading questions, especially after an unimpressive performance in general (shooting 38% from the field, 28% from 3, and a dreadful 50% from the free throw line...and that's playing against other rookies). Nowadays, teams need PGs who can both pass AND score (e.g., DRose, Westbrook, CP3, Parker, Wall, Irving to name a few).

Sure, Machado can dream about being a starter one day, but now is not the time to talk about it. He has to get his priorities straight. If someone asked him whether he’d want to be a starter, he should say that it's a future goal but that it's not his focus as of now. What he should be talking about instead is working on his jump shot, free throws, and getting a contract first. And he should also add in how happy he would be just to have any opportunity to be on any team. This is what all the other rookies are saying in their interviews. Is Machado the only dummy? Obviously, he needs to develop common sense and some humility.

Dear Sir,

I am applying for an internship position for your company. It may be fun working under you for a little while, but I wouldn't like it. I eventually want to be your manager. After all, I come from a better school than you, and have a better GPA than you.

Sincerely,

Scott

PS. I may sound arrogant, but it's actually confidence. Just another reason I should be hired.
