I've seen a few doing the same thing in Austin. Heck, I saw a couple of crazy people yesterday doing it at 112 degrees. Some folks have a death wish, I guess.

We cancelled our soccer practice tonight, it is just too stinking hot for 8 year olds to be running up and down the fields.

It is supposed to cool this weekend as our first cool front comes through...drop us down to the mid 90s.

I always see people jogging at Memorial no matter how hot at all times of the day. I don't understand how or why one would do this. I have a little trouble finishing the 3 mile loop at 8pm when its still about 90-95 degrees.

13mbps is nice... if you can get it.

this is a couple of years old, i don't think things have changed much. as others have mentioned, google is pushing the bar up a bit.

The United States ranks 28th in the world in average Internet connection speed and is not making significant progress in building a faster network, according to a report released on Tuesday.

The report by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) said the average download speed in South Korea is 20.4 megabits per second (mbps) -- four times faster than the US average of 5.1 mbps.

Japan trails South Korea with an average of 15.8 mbps followed by Sweden at 12.8 mbps and the Netherlands at 11.0 mbps, the report said.

It said tests conducted by speedmatters.org found the average US download speed had improved by only nine-tenths of a megabit per second between 2008 and 2009 -- from 4.2 mbps to 5.1 mbps.

"The US has not made significant improvement in the speeds at which residents connect to the Internet," the report said. "Our nation continues to fall far behind other countries."

"People in Japan can upload a high-definition video in 12 minutes, compared to a grueling 2.5 hours at the US average upload speed," the report said.

It said 18 percent of those who took a US speed test recorded download speeds that were slower than 768 kilobits per second, which does not even qualify as basic broadband, according to the Federal Communications Commission.

Be careful with that attitude...things could warm up a lot there in a short amount of time.

It doesn't have to be 1gbit, but something competitive with Japan would be lovely.
well if any country like USA or Canada wants to achieve the speed of Japan or Korea, they have to put a lot more into those fiber cables because of the inverse square law of energy dissipation.. and you know how big USA or Canada are.

Google launched their new Fiber gigabit network today in Kansas City. In addition to the Internet, they also launched their Fiber TV service.
