Danny ainge said there was only 5 NBA players he wouldn't trade for LeBron as a HS junior. He would have been the no1 pick over Yao as a junior. If Rw can be 1/2 as good as James I would be ecstatic.

Well, the thinking is that the time he puts into music means less time working on his game, and distracts from his focus. For instance he is currently writing a book, so I'm assuming he is not working on his jumper simultaneously. Of course, no NBA player practices 24 hours a day, so he can do all that in his free time, but the idea is that star players are exceptionally focused. Think Kobe, Michael etc., those guys live and breathe basketball.

Again, I am just nitpicking because I want him to become a star, not just a role player. And having these hobbies does not necessarily prevent that, I simply want him to have the best chance possible . And I understand how having diverse interests makes him this more exceptional human being. And that's nice, but quite frankly, I am not interested in basketball for human beings. If we can win with a bunch of lowlifes I'd be just as happy.

Yeah, except being tall doesn't mean you're automatically good at basketball. I know a few people who are 6'10" and 6'11" who suck at the game majorly. There's a guy who grew up in my hometown who was 7'8" too (tallest guy in America now), and they tried using him for basketball too, but he also sucked. Luckily for White, he actually has skills.

I don't think anyone on this planet actually thinks Royce White will ever be as good as Lebron, or probably even half as good. Except maybe the OP. However, if we are to compare style of play, Royce is an exceptionally unique 270-pound-oversized-ballhandling-no-look-passing-jack-of-all-trades-point-forward. There are really not many comparisons besides finals Lebron who played PF, or maybe finals Magic who played C. Again, this is like saying how all I do is iso and jack up 1-on-5 shots at the Y, so my style of play is most similar to Kobe. Doesn't mean I will ever be just as good, or even half as good. Probably a third as good though.

Other than a better jumpshot, Royce is pretty close. Also, he will have the advantage of having more access to Dream, Yao, McHale and CD. It's a good thing that he only really got one season of exposure.
Is it possible that we may have struck gold?

If he can be hot plate williams before he ate his way out of the league we might have something.

Here is a pretty rare high school tape of Royce. His shot mechanics and movement keep reminding me of someone I can't quite put my finger on... Brandon Roy?? Of course this is before he gained like 50 pounds and stopped playing basketball for 2 years.

Jumper form looks like he can hit an outside shot when needed, to me.

Form looks good....and that was years ago.

Like riding a bike.

I doubt he's close to as athletic as LBJ. Please don't mistake me for a Lebron fan though..

Yeah, by his own admission he's not a great shooter, It is just that at ISU he really didnt need to shoot the ball from far out. ISU had 4 guys with over 50 made 3 point shots, and Royce is the type of player who would rather hit the open guy than to throw up a shot. IIRC in the summer league his goal was to get 18 rebounds and 10 assists. Didnt care about the points. Very unselfish player. But he can beast mode it also. Had 23 points on 75% shooting against Kentucky.

Royce White is the most unique player in this year’s draft. On talent alone, he should be ranked a top-8 pick. At 6’8″ with a 260 lb frame, he has drawn comparisons to Lebron James physically.

Quote:
For all his many talents, White's jumper could be the thing that holds him back at the next level. If he could have forced defenders to respect his shot, he would have been an almost unstoppable force at the college level. With a jump-shot, it'd be tough to pass on White -- in the top 5.

Trying to find a comparison for such a versatile player is difficult - Charles Barkley without a jump-shot? A less athletic LeBron James?
That last quote has been posted many times in this thread already.

Being built like LeBron James doesn't make you the same basketball player..
