Without making the Clipper trade the Hornets don't get to tank, which got them the #1 pick. And Sota's pick was unprotected, so they had two shots at that pick.

No.

He's good, but not nearly good enough to warrant giving him big money, considering he's pretty darn likely to miss half of the team's games.

Repeating what others have said, but there is no way NOLA is not matching any offer at the chance to pair him up with Davis.

And Morey would be stupid to make an offer and tie our hands up with other free agents, especially should we land Howard and need to fill out the roster. If we land Howard, I want to be going after Deron, and after that Ray Allen or maybe Garnett. Gotta build a team that can make a serious run and hopefully convince Dwight to stay.

As long as the Rockets trade for both their star players and the 2nd guy makes around 14M or under they get it done (salary-wise) with:

Dragic (bird)
Parsons, Lee (bird)
(2nd star)
Scola, Donuts, Morris/Patterson
Dwight, Smith

It would even open up the possibility of getting the MLE too to add more talent/depth.
