Straight outta www.brightsideofthesun.com

A very emotional poster who is a passionate Suns fan out of nowhere wrote a whole heartfelt essay dedicated to the Rockets and how he respects and loves us. It is so rare for fans of a certain team to spill great praise to another team, much less to a team like ours who's really done nothing to be in the national spotlight for many years. To read such a touching and refreshing article about us, much less inspired by little apart from the basic fundamental blue-collar things we do, is what really makes me proud of the team and organisation we have and to see this team's love and energy spread to other fans of the NBA, is truly great to see.

Watching the Rockets fight the Bulls tooth and nail tonight made me realize something very odd: I don't hate the Rockets.
Why is that?

No self-respecting Suns fan has any problem getting riled up for a Lakers, Spurs or Mavericks game.
We had a pretty testy playoffs a few years ago with Portland, so there I no love lost there, as far as I'm concerned.
I also have plenty of hate in my heart saved for the Jazz. I hated those Stockton and Malone teams. I hate that people claim Stockton was a better PG than Nash. Plenty of hate for the Jazz.
How many wins have the Nuggets gotten out of that atmosphere? What a stupid advantage. Also, that whole situation with McDyess sucked, and I blame them.
The Clips, Grizz and T-Wolves, while all doing well this year, are such jokes as franchises, I feel fine ignoring them.
Same thing goes for the Warriors and Hornets.

That leaves the Sonics/Thunder, and the Rockets. I don't feel strongly about the Thunder, and I think that's understandable. We beat up on them, they beat up on us, but it was never really high stakes.

But not the Rockets.

Surely no-one has forgotten those awful series in the 90s. The 3-1 lead blown. The Kiss of Death. The Barkley trade. Two of the most unlikable stars in the NBA (to me, at least) in Steve Francis and T-Mac.

Teams have given us far less grief (The Mavs, tho they suck, never derailed a true title contender like the Rockets did) and gotten off way less.

Why?

I may be all alone on this one, but there's just something about the Rockets I respect, damnit. They've always done a decent job as a franchise putting talent out there, but have never dominated unfairly. As much as I hated losing, I never had anything but respect for the Dream.

Even know, as we fight them for a playoff spot, I weirdly respect them. So much fight/spunk. I think they are absolutely the least talented team in the playoff chase, yet just hang in there, and beat teams like the Bulls.

I hate you just fine, Houston. But damnit, do I respect you.
Worth a read
