Not with the bad contracts the Rockets will have to take on and cannot amnesty.

That's only an issue if you're planning to rebuild using cap space instead of the draft. You can bench or negotiate a buyout with bad contracts.

If it's Howard, I am fine with it. If he bolts after the season, we'll be in official tank mode. Either way would probably be a blessing.

A Howard rental must be ensued by a D-Wil acquisition in the offseason, or else it's all for naught.

It would make me nervous as hell, considering the short time we'd have him, but you have to take a risk if you have a chance at a player like Howard. And yes, we'd sure be in a hole if he bolted. The way Morey works, I wouldn't count on being in full tank mode, though. Somehow, we'd still end up winning "too many games," in my opinion. Taking that risk is our only shot at the guy. That risk puts us in the game, if he ends up being moved as a rental. Lots of teams would give up the farm for Howard with an extension.

We can rebuild through the draft. You know with actually having picks HIGHER than #14. That how most teams acquire their superstars.

I hear Evan Turner is going nuts in Philly, 26 points last time I heard. Morey is getting the 2010 pupu platter ready

Big Baby, J-Rich, or Hedo aren't going to lose as much as you hope for.

    Raymond Felton = Kevin Martin
    Wilson Chandler = Chandler Parsons
Danilo Gallinari > Patrick Patterson (he wasn't quite as good as Lowry when he was traded, but was better than Pat is now)
    Timofey Mozgov = Morris? Motiejunas?
    2014 Knicks pick < 2012 Knicks pick

If you could get Howard for Martin, Parsons, Patterson, Morris, the Knicks pick, and future 2nd rounders, wouldn't you jump on that and try to convince Howard to stay? I would. That roster looks like this:

    Lowry/Dragic
    Lee/Dragic
    Budinger/T-Will
    Scola/Hill
    Howard/Dalembert

A package of DMo, Patterson, Parsons, Martin, Dalembert, NYK pick and Thabeet to absorb Hedo's unwanted contract is a decent starting point for a Howard rental.
That gives Orl 3 good young players, 1 very good veteran in his prime, a mid first round pick. and ability to clear the books. The Magic will tank next year and hopefully go for Drummond.

    That still leaves us with
    Howard/Smith
    Scola/Hill
    Hedo/Chase/Morris
    Lee/Twil
    Lowry/Dragic

You then target DWil in the offseason and go from there.

I oppose taking back any of Orlando's 'bad' contracts unless he opts in, ala Chris Paul, or signs an extension. Otherwise, sorry!

If Im getting Howard , I wouldnt mind keeping Scola even tho I agree with your assessment of him being on the decline and overpaid .... He's a very good compliment to Howard since he can operate outside of the paint and on the weak side leaving Howard in the post .... Scola's money with that 12-18ft jumper.

Im more concerned with who my PG is .... would they demand Lowry as part of the compensation ? If you traded Lowry in a deal for Howard would you look to extend Dragic now or let him hit FA ?

I'd gladly package Martin and any of the young guy's along with picks for Howard ....

Say a package of Martin , Patterson , Dalembert , Twill and Thabeet along with a future top 5 protected pick .... Possibly getting a 3rd team involved to take someone like Dalembert sending another draft pick to Orlando , giving them Martin and Patterson along with two first rounds picks and two expiring contracts while getting out from under the contract of Turkoglu.

Sounds like reasonable compensation to me ....

    Lowry / Dragic
    Lee / Budinger
    Turkoglu / Parsons / Morris
    Scola / Hill
    Howard / Hill / G.Smith

You'd be a bit challenged at the SG spot but thats a solid team top to bottom on both ends of the court.
