Thanks, Yoyo, good job! DM the GM: should we read anything into the Nets having some reported interest in Luis Scola while not having yet signed D Favors? (DM the GM said that when he was still in the running for the #2 pick he was going to take Favors.)
With Wade now having LeBron and Bosh, there seems to be 3 elite teams in the league along with Boston and L.A. With that sort of Fire power on one team, do you think we need do more than stay pat or acquire a role player piece....do you make an attempt at a Carmelo Anthony to give us our own trio of Yao-Brooks-Anthony. It seems your not very big on a guy like Anthony as well - why is that?
What is the order of importance as far as any future moves made this offseason... A) Needs B) Roster flexibility C) Roster balance ---------- With a good mix already of young talent AND veteran leadership, is that even a major consideration for any acquisitions at this point? ---------- Is the team willing to pay the luxury tax this season?
Thanks YoYo Mr. Morey, If Patrick does well defensive/offensively, do you think Adelman is in the mindframe of giving him "Casell Like Minutes" with all our powerforwards?
If that is true I doubt Morey would give you a straight answer, but we shouldn't tempt him (and spoil any remote future chance of getting Carmelo)
Is this it for you, General Manager? Or do you have other aspirations, like President...of a team, not that I probably wouldn't vote for you politically. Or owner? Or finding something else outside of basketball?
Don't worry, he's a skilled enough GM to be able to handle that kind of question. If he has any interest in Anthony, he'll sing his praises and that's what Morey needs, an opportunity to talk positively about a player so it can get back to said player.
- Do you think the Rockets, with the current roster, can reach the necessary defensive level to contend? (special mention to the starting backcourt) - Where do you think has Jordan Hill more potential, at PF position, or as Center?
That's a great question. Here's a question: Since it's apparent that we have a pretty deep roster, did Morey and his staff of statistical analysts find that a team with a 9 or 10 man rotation often does better than a team with a 8 man rotation? Is there any correlation between extreme depth (potentially 11-12 man rotation) and wins? Is it best to play everyone with reduced minutes? Or do his statistics indicate that playing with fewer players results in more wins as a result of chemistry/better flow, even if the rest of the bench are quality players, perhaps as good as some of the other guys in the rotation?
Dear Daryl Morey, For a GM characterized as the "stat geek", it appears you place a high value on high character players as well. You are on the record that Jordan Hill was 6th or 7th best in terms of pure basketball potential/production, yet "off the court issues" docked him down into the "10-20" range of overall ranking. On the flip side, Patrick Patterson was #6 on your board, much higher than the league-wide consensus of early teens, because he embodies diligence, professionalism, and leadership. Chuck Hayes and Shane Battier are two other players who have these virtues. So my question(s) is what examples can you share that illustrate how possessing these qualities translate into more wins more the rockets? What positive things do they do off the court that indirectly helps the team win on the court? Or, employing a double negative, what negative action/habit do these guys Not do that would detriment the team?
What is your plan B? Also, you mentioned you had 6 backup plans just incase Bosh thing didn't work out. What were or are they?
1. What are your expectations for this team with the return of Yao Ming? 2. With so much NBA talent on the team, how will Rick Adelman be able to keep everyone happy? 3. When does the team feel Sergio Llull will be ready to make the jump to the NBA? 4. What kind of expectations do you have this year for Jermaine, Chase and Jordan, and Patrick ? 5. How important is it to get Luis and Kyle back on this team? 6. How important is it for the team to find out about Yao's durability before signing him to a new contract? 7. Next year, can we do the caravan to the summer league games in Vegas instead? That is it for now, a lot of other questions, but he probably can't answer them so no need for me to even ask them. Good luck YY, and thanks for doing this. DD
Assuming the roster stays similar to what it is now(i.e no major signings, trades by us) do you think we can a)make the playoffs and b) maybe advance ot the 2nd or 3rd round?
Do you feel like Bosh, Wade, and LeBron played you and the rest of the league in that they had already decided to team up long before? Could you comment on your understanding of how that unfolded?
