He was the one that brought fans into the discussion!

I'm not citing it as evidence that Texas is a better job than USC! I think they're on level footing, for what it's worth. What I take issue with is justtxyank's implication that USC is clearly a better job than Texas, and everyone besides UT fans would agree. The ESPN poll shows this is clearly not the case. No, I do not believe that fan polls are a fair representation of the true coaching hierarchy - and in no way did I say or imply that I did.

It's ludicrous to think that UT isn't one of the top 5 premier jobs in the country...I don't care if you hate them or not...fact of the matter is that it's one of the top programs...certainly more so than Tennessee.

But the fact that some (not all) of you horns fans are so disgusted with people saying he should consider this job as opposed to waiting an indefinite amount of time for the UT job makes me laugh.

The smart long term play is to stay at Texas...but it is a risk as well.

We get it guys. Texas is the best at everything. Best job, best school, best football program ever, Austin is the best city in the world, they have the hottest chicks, and the best beer, Mack Brown is the best coach ever, Colt is the winningest QB of all time and not a system QB, Jamal Charles is the next Barry Sanders and Muschamp is the next coming of Christ (even though the Aggies hung 40 on his defense). And the Houston Texans should only draft UT players.

Hell even when they lose, its not really a loss because it deserves an asterisk. They never lose. Even when they don't make the NC game because Crabtree caught a TD in the last 5 seconds, we need another asterisk because they got screwed by the BCS computers. We all know they would have whipped Florida last year. Right? Of course.

Even when Bradford gets his shoulder blown out and they only win the game by a few points, this game doesn't deserve an asterisk, well because they are Texas (and OU lost to BYU blah blah blah). Even in 2005 when most experts picked against them and Vegas had them as 7 point underdogs, they were the superior team and USC shouldn't have even been on the same field as them. Even though it took the greatest college football performance of all time by VY to win the game on a 4th down play with less than a minute left, there was never a doubt that UT was head and shoulders better than USC that year, and all the experts who picked USC to win that game were morons. Hey VY knee was down on that toss play, put an ASTERISK on this game!!!! arggghhhhhh.

    We get it guys.

Not that I care much about the fan poll - but what is the "science" between what is the best job in the country? Why are people who took the time to vote in it less valuable as a consensus opinion - shouldn't it be the opposite, and they should be weighted one way or the other? This isn't like an internet poll that says "obama sux y/n?" on fox news or something.

Sure recruits will still want to go to USC rght now, I mean look at all the pub they're getting, tat program just stole the light away from Bama and Texas.

But when the NCAA lays down that hammer and sanctions them, what's going to be left? Limited scholarships, no chance at a BCS bowl, they probably get stripped of their MNC, which wasnt supposed to be their's to begin with. I don't care how great that program has been the past decade, they lost four games this past year, Carrol bolted because he saw what was coming, the NCAA is going to cut them, and that program is going to be left in shambles. And I for one couldnt be happier.

I think that depending on the criteria, any one of USC, Texas, and Florida (maybe Notre Dame too in some circles) could be considered the best job in college football. Arguing past that is just playing with your dick because it becomes more a matter of subjective opinion.

Regarding Muschamp, Tennessee is not as great of a job as Texas, but it can be a damned good job and is more than capable of being every bit the equal of Oklahoma or Alabama. So the question becomes, how long are you willing to wait for Mack Brown to step down? There has to be a point where it doesn't make much sense to wait more than "X" years for the job to come open. And that's a personal decision and only Muschamp has the answer. Yes, he'll be given a better job eventually, but under the right circumstances, it'd be foolish not to at least consider an immediate vacancy.

UT is set in perpetuity, Tennessee is toxic after this and it's recruiting could be effected for the entire tenure of the next coach (4 years, losing their recruits from this year with only Kippy Brown the job) UT is almost guaranteed to be in the top 4 teams of the Big 12 every year, Tennessee will be fighting for middle of the pack status in the SEC.

Muschamp might make his 10 million over 4 years and be fired or he can stay at UT making $900,000 for the same period and then move into that $5 million dollar job. Two years into it he's way ahead.

He's got a golden egg laying bird in his hand.

As a Longhorn, let's please try to keep this about Kiffin/Tennessee. There's a lot going on with this story in itself, hell, it sounds like they already committed recruiting violations not 24 hours after the announcement. Pretty crazy stuff...

There's no way Muschamp will be making anything close to $5MM/yr when he takes over as head coach (barring general coaching inflation). He won't be remotely the highest paid coach in the country. Mack gets that because of his decade of success and a national title.

wasn't the question "Who besides Texas fans thinks UT is the best job in country"? you have a better barometer of that?

    didn't think so.

As Major said, Muschamp isn't going to be making $5M/year on his first head coaching contract for Texas. That's ludicrous.

That could change in a minute though. Nebraska and Miami were premier jobs. I'd say Ohio State and Michigan belong in the conversation, and Oklahoma & Alabama are close.

Vols fan wants to rename waste treatment plant after Kiffin

There's no love lost between Tennessee fans and Lane Kiffin.

Knoxville attorney Drew McElroy has filed paperwork with the Knoxville City Council's Public Properties and Facilities Naming Committee to rename a waste water treatment plant the “Lane Kiffin Sewage Center,” according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

“It dawned on me -- Lane Kiffin told us that he hoped the fans would understand. I thought 'Well, naming the wastewater plant for him would let him know, I think very clearly, we do understand,'“ McElroy told the paper. “We want to memorialize his stay here, and I think this would be doing it appropriately.”

Kiffin was the Vols' football coach for just over a year before leaving Tennessee to take the head coaching job at USC.

McElroy told the Courier-Journal he wrote a $262 check for the application fee and mailed it to the City Council's Clerk last week.

“We don't have to rename the entire facility after him, just a part of it,” he said.

How would the plan be received by the community at large? One member might offer a clue.

“I think it'd be very fitting," said UT student Paul Mills said, according to the paper. "He's definitely garbage.”

I'll agree with you here. I'm not a Texas fan, but even I can see that Texas is a Top 5 job.

Some combo of Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, and Alabama would, in my opinion, be the Top 5 college football jobs.

Just outside those would have to be (in no order) Penn State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, USC, and Miami (talent will always be there, but the "traditions" and winning are relatively recent).

Tennessee/Georgia/LSU and Florida/Florida State just below those aforementioned.
