I love the chain of events. It brings a smile to my face.
Right-wing crazies say: NY-23 is going to be pivotal in shaping elections to come!
Glenn Beck / Sarah Palin: We agree, so we're going to endorse the ultra-conservative candidate!
Conservatives: We guarantee victory in NY-23! Yay for conservatism!!
Democrat wins NY-23 for the first time in 100 years because of a split party.
Conservatives: Hah! We have you right where we want you! We got this in '09! Suckers! Also look, we won some gubernatorial seats too! WIN ACROSS THE BOARD GUYS!
Me: WTF?

All you guys can do is shoot the messenger. Because Krauthammer's message in this article is spot on. No one here has said anything that refutes his assertion that recent claims by liberals that the 2008 election were a "historical re-alignment" have now been demonstrated to be nonsense. It was all just a left wing fantasy. And after Tuesday's elections, that little dream sequence is over. Now it is for everyone who bought into this myth to rejoin reality.
Once gain, here is the link to Krauthammer's excellent article:

puhlease. explain to us again how a democrat winning a seat held by a republican since the civil war is a victory for republicans? palin put her lipstick on, made an appearance, and the democrat was elected. you can link to a hater all you want to, but that doesn't make it credible.

This article is a prediction and Krauthammer's track record isn't very good. Go ahead and keep your head in the sand. It's your right and privilege. When people write what you want to believe, it all makes sense, doesn't it?

You're one to talk about "partisan cracks." You probably even think the recent GOP health care "plan" is a better option than what is going to get passed in the near future.

You are truly tiresome with your reposting of information that has already been posted several times already. It is truly condescending and rude, as if anyone who hadn't read the article already would read it after you posted the link a third time.
That being said, Krauthammer's words have as much to take seriously in them as Beck, Hannity, Maddow, or Olbermann's words do. I don't expect that you would treat an article by Rachel Maddow seriously because you decry her as a partisan hack, a category in which Krauthammer definitely belongs.
On to the "substance." This was an off-year election, no Senate seats, a single special election for a House race, two mayoral races, and two gubenatorial races. You are welcome to look at '09 as a referendum on Obama, but anyone who is paying attention saw what happened and knows how little impact any of these races had on the federal government. In fact, the only race that did have some kind of federal impact swung Dem, partly because the nutso crowd (Palin, Hannity, Faux "News,") weighed in on the side of a nut case whose speeches were little more than recent talking points strung together without even the barest hint of a segue.
Krauthammer is a hack and you are a hack follower.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele said that white republicans are afraid of him.
Quote:
MARTIN: But your candidates got to talk to them. One of the criticisms I've always had is Republicans -- white Republicans -- have been scared of black folks.
STEELE: You're absolutely right. I mean I've been in the room and they've been scared of me.

A couple of days ago Think Progress posted this story about the RNC healthcare insurance plan covering abortions.
RNC employee health insurance plan covers abortion.
Now this morning comes this from Steele.
GOP chairman ends abortion insurance for employees
A chagrined GOP Chairman Michael Steele has told Republican National Committee staff to immediately stop providing RNC employees with insurance for elective abortions — an option that Republicans strongly oppose as Democrats try to pass a health care overhaul bill.
"Money from our loyal donors should not be used for this purpose," Steele said in a statement late Thursday after learning of the abortion coverage from a news report. "I don't know why this policy existed in the past, but it will not exist under my administration. Consider this issue settled."
