I'm betting that the MWC gets granted AQ status before that happens.

I'm not saying it will happen but I wouldnt be surprised if TCU did eventually jump Texas. It'll help their case if they beat Utah this week. Texas sos doesnt really halep them either. In the Sagarin ratings(what? who?) TCU is ranked 3rd. But we'll eventually see. I dont think it'll happen but again I wouldnt be surprised if it did either.

The Sagarin is just one of eight computers that calculates the computer ranking of the BCS. Not sure how all the other computers will rank though.

Oh ok. Thanks for the clear up. Never heard of it until Wexler said something about it.

What does Ty Detmer have to do with anything? That was 1990. Long before the BCS. Klingler finished 5th or 6th I think.

I apologize if my post was somewhat ambiguous- I agree that he likely WON'T win it, but I disagreed that he NEVER HAD A SHOT, as you stated in your post. Then, I stated my case for what would've helped him. (Tech and Okie State looking better, his team not screwing the pooch vs. UTEP, etc.)
So, that's my point. He had a chance, but not very likely after those situations. Still not impossible, though. Still very much on the national radar for lots of national writers and websites, many of whom have actual votes in the Heisman.

I can't make that judgement call.
But like I said. If they paste Utah this week and win out and UT doesn't completely annihilate their final 3 opponents. Then TCU, in my mind, will have just as much right to the title game as UT does.
|
I agree that it's largely a judgment call right now, and will be if both teams finish undefeated. I did a little more research, and both Texas and TCU compare very favorably when looking at total offense stats, many of the defensive stats, and even level of competition. Their computer ranking average is similar, as well. So, on paper it's certainly not easy to select one over the other....
As a Texas fan, I'm grateful that voters would probably give my team the benefit of the doubt, with all things being equal. It's not fair, at all. It's one of the many reasons why I want a freaking playoff. But I do wonder if Texas will get a few beneficial votes based on sympathy from people who thought Texas should've been playing Florida. Just curious- don't necessarily think that's right, either....

It's actually 6 computers, and I'm pretty sure the top and bottom computer scores are dropped, and the other four are averaged to get the BCS computer score.

It is better for the Rocket's organization for TMac to sit. Young players develop, the team gets a higher draft pick, insurance pays his salary, and Tmac's value get driven though the basement.

Utah is only ranked decently in 1 computer. Even with a TCU win over Utah and a Texas win over Baylor, Texas stays ahead of TCU in Colley Matrix. If you add in wins over Whyoming and the winless New Mexico, their rating drops back to around where it is right now.
As much as people bitch about how bad the big 12 is, it holds the advantage in head to head over the MTW 4-2 and Big 12 teams won 61% of their non conference compared to 53% for the MTW.
Things become a lot closer after a SEC team loses and Texas and TCU are only separated by 1 spot in the Harris and Coaches. We'll see I suppose.
