To add to this; Nets would swap Sean Williams for Nate Robinson. Please Morey, use your magic powers and get us Sean Williams for Luther and Memphis' 2nd. Pretty please?
Last time Morey was exploring minor trades, he got Ron Artest. I wonder who the next minior trade will be? Seriously, though, my thought would be Luther Head for no salary in return, but only if they need the room under the tax threshhold to offer Dikembe a larger contract.
I'm guessing there won't be another trade of that caliber come February. The Rockets just made that move six months early. As far as expirings, the Rockets have the following expiring contracts: Ron Artest (~$7.4M) Steve Francis (~$2.6M) Luther Head (~$1.9M) Aaron Brooks (~$1.045M, only if third year option isn't picked up) And the following players with only partially (or non-) guaranteed contracts, IF they make the team, would also have small expiring contracts: Mike Harris ($711,517) Sean Singletary ($442,114) Patrick Ewing, Jr. ($442,114) Artest gets traded only if he is a complete and unmitigated disaster next season, but I don't see that happening. I also don't see the Rockets declining to exercise their option on Brooks. Plus, I think Singletary and Ewing will be waived or traded before the season. That basically leaves only Francis and Head as legit expiring contracts to use for a deadline deal (plus Harris, but his deal is so small and can actually be traded without regard to the salary cap because he makes the minimum). Bottom line: I just don't see any major deals in the Rockets' future, unless you count re-signing Carl Landry or possibly picking up a veteran mid-season for the league minimum (a la Sam Cassell or P.J. Brown) or remainder of the MLE. If anything, you'll probably see Morey trying to do a small cost-cutting move to get the team under the luxury tax threshhold. Depending on what Landry will agree to re-sign for, the deal may need to involve additional compensation on the Rockets' part to cut those costs.
Hi, Mr Clutch, I have some questions to ask you. 1. As I know, there is NOT YET a press conference. Jonathan Feigen said in his blog reply that the press conference will not be held until Daryl Morey returned from Beijing late this month. How can you say "After the press conference, I got the chance to ask Morey, who is in Beijing, China for the Olympics, if he thought his wheeling and dealing with other teams was done for the summer. "? 2. Ron Artest is also in Beijing? I am a fan in Beijing but I've never seen any news about Artest coming to China. And I think he is still in USA. How can you say "Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, along with owner Les Alexander and new acquisition Ron Artest, spoke with the media on Thursday about the Rockets big move with the Kings. " I know that you are a famous ID at Clutchfans but I can not believe your article.
Who's a better 3rd string SG than Head? Honestly, what can you get for him that makes the team better? Sometimes the hate on this board is just too much.
There was a press conference over the phone and Artest is in China. There is even audio from the conference on the front page, top-right side. This is not some random chinese blog; everything on this website is reliable.
Why the hell is everyone always clamoring to trade Chuck Hayes? Show me a better 4th big man at that price in the league.
I wonder if Clutch would trade Head for a season supply of these: <img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2299/2420631416_016f0d4809.jpg">
There certainly isn't one. I also wouldn't be so sure that his role will be as limited as many here think. He only briefly lost his place in the rotation last season after the emergence of Landry (and even then, he provided valuable spot minutes when needed), and all it takes is one injury for him to be a key role player again. Scola's the obvious starter, but there's no guarantee that Landry will be the same Landry we saw last season during the streak (assuming he signs with the Rockets at all). Saying that Chuck Hayes is a good insurance policy is an understatement.
i agree, though my gut is telling me Morey has one last trick up his sleeve ( I think he has his eye on a certain point guard and 6'11 athletic guy) I still cant believe we have made additions like Brent Barry, Joey Dorsey, and Ron Artest....that is awesome......
I used the phrase press conference because it was a conference of the press... technically it was a press conference call. As it says on the front page, the three "spoke with the media via conference call". This was talked about throughout the day here at the BBS as well. Because they did -- via phone. I never said Artest was in Beijing. Morey is in Beijing. Artest was in New York ... as was Les Alexander. I'm cool with that.
I know these audios. But as I listened, Morey/Les/Artest never talked to each other in these audios, so they can not prove there is a press conference. It may be three phone calls from Clutch to Morey, from Clutch to Les, and from Clutch to Artest. Would Clutch tell us fans which other journalists are attending this "phone conference", and if they asked any questions to Morey/Les/Artest? A press conference should be open, and open to at least two journalists. I hope it's not only "three seperate phone calls". If that, it doesn't affect the reliability about "still minor trade" words from Morey, but I will be sorry that there is no press conference.
Hayes isntgetting traded. he's a basment bargin for he's price and defensive ability. someone with he's defensive prowess is worth much more then 2 million. btw, thats what were paying him. he's a bargin.
LOL ... rivo, you're funny. So I got on three separate phone calls with Les, Artest and Morey ... but faked a story about them talking to the media? Why wouldn't I just say they just talked to me then? I like that better Feigen was there. Mark Berman was there. Some guys from the Sacramento Bee were there. Those are just the ones I heard that asked questions. And when I say there, I mean they were called in ... not that they were in Beijing.
