This was true from day 1 of the off-season... and yet Ed Wade was saying to be "optimistic" about the staff.
I understand that Cooper wanted to get the most innings possible from Hernanadez due to yesterday's game but to leave him in to give up 10 runs is ridiculous.
So we lost the extra inning game where we were forced to exhaust all of our pitchers, now we lose because we had no pitchers left. That extra innings affair caused us to lose two times...
It's all part of the plan to get a higher draft pick, so that we can offer a player no has in their top 20 the MLB approved amount of money.
I understand that we exausted all of our pitchers yesterday in the long game but i am tired of hearing in almost every game this season how some one is sitting this one out because they needed a day off. I'm glad i'm not a season ticket holder or i would want my money back, isn't the point of baseball to win the game? How can the astros do that if they are always resting people? I don't really understand why we didn't take Hernadez out of the game in the 2nd inning before he completely lost the game for us, you could tell he wasn't going to turn things around, and like i already said the point of the game is to win, and if they didn't want to do that why did they even show up.
Did you really expect to hear the team GM go out publicly during ST amd say..."damn, we're gonna suck?" If he had said that, he should have been fired on the spot.
Haha yeah or how about: "Playoffs, dont talk about playoffs, I just hope we can win a game." Signed, Jim Mora Im just gonna call it a season for the 'Stros. Clearly they arent going anywhere this season or in the near seeable future. When your battling Pittsburgh for last place, and then lose to them and are in last place, well I dont know what more there is to say. And dont get me wrong about being a fair weathered(?) fan, Im not one of those, but Im just gonna call it a season for them.
GM's are not paid to be rah-rah, "come out and see this team... we're going to win it all" type people. That's what the owners and media are for. The GM's job is to be completely objective about his team (or not say anythign at all). Ed Wade could have said "yes, we are still looking to improve pitching", or simply not have commented on it. The fact that he said "I think this pitching staff is going to suprise some people out there"... is a statement that he truly believes in the staff he constructed. If he was lying about it.. just to try to sell tickets or brew interest.... THAT is reason to consider hiring somebody else.
I disagree entirely. If he sells tickets he's not gonna take heat for that. He's certainly to be honest in his closed-door sessions with Drayton and other team executives. But if i own a baseball team, I don't want my GM going to the media to cluck about how mediocre any part of our team on the field is.
did you see those crazy looking rain clouds? it looked like the devil coming out of hell to grab the astros and make them suffer. i think the astros did a rain dance so as to call the game versus losing another one. this game is a loss. chalk it up. lol.
Bingo. Any GM who does anything other than speak publicly about the team in a positive light is a dolt and should be canned.
Why on earth is JR Towles serving as the backup catcher. It seems like Ausmus is starting more often than Towles. If we're trying to find out if he's the catcher of the future, this season is the time to play him - you'd think he'd be starting 4 of out 5 games at a minimum, but it seems like he's starting 2 of our 5.
We tried that and he sucked. If Quintero hadn't gotten hit in the head with a bat, Towles would still be back in Round Rock.
But I doubt they've given up on him. Why not just let him start the majority of games and give him more MLB experience. It's not like we're going anywhere this season.
