I'm probably the biggest Bon Jovi fan on the board, but their output post-2000 has been one big money-making joke.

IMHO, it doesn't get much better than Van Halen 1978-1984, but Aerosmith's longevity (despite not creating their own material) has to count for something.

    Bump...

Come on, Manny and moe. Don't stop now. I know you're both logged on. Now is not the time to take the high road and turn the other cheek.

As I said in the DMB thread, I LOVE this site! Any time a thread goes past 5 pages, you can pretty much guarantee that it has deteriorated (or ameliorated, depending on your point of view) into a long flame war. :D

    Absolutely.

ANY hangout thread over 5 pages is a must read. Doesn't matter what the topic.

(the opposite is true in the D&D forum ;)).

I have to admit I've been pretty entertained by Manny's rolling hissy fit over the last couple of weeks. I get a chuckle every time he writes something about how someone else shouldn't take posting on this board so seriously.

From my perspective this has been Manny's dose of bbs karma for piling on MacBeth so gleefully.

MacBeth deserved every bit of piling on; and that thread was probably one of the most entertaining ones ever.

I've done my work here, and Manny knows there isn't anything he can do about it. When he comes at me with junior high garbage and I retort with (mostly) facts about his life I guess it hurts. The truth often does. I don't think he'd want me to divulge some of the things I've alluded to in this thread. He might lose that BBS credibility he's worked so hard to attain.

I just have one question for everybody. Who is the only band, not just American band, but the ONLY band to ever have an entire clutchfans forum dedicated to them? That's right...

I do regret that the pissing match between me and a fellow poster happened and it could have been avoided if it was taken off-line. But it wasn't surprising to me that he declined my offer. I am also not surprised he declined my offer of leaving the BBS permanently if voted off.

If the BBS crashed today and I was not able to access it anymore, it would be hard but I would find other places to go to occupy my time. Granted, these places would pale in comparison to the BBS here, but there are other websites out there, you know? I do like this place or else I wouldn't have wasted so much time here the last 6 plus years. It is a place that I find that I can escape to. I do try to be civil to everyone here unless they are outright obnoxious and rude. I have mentioned that maybe I was a little mean-spirited towards MacBeth but like Jackie said, I felt that he deserved it. And I would probably not have changed anything I said in that thread if I was given the opportunity. If that makes me such an evil person, then I guess I am evil.

But unlike MacBeth, I don't plan on leaving unless I have to. You can only engage in a pissing match for so long or at least that is what I believe. Then you move on and don't acknowledge the people who are deliberately trolling you to get a response (sorry ima, no more fighting - at least from me on this subject). And if there are some people here who don't like me or what I have to post, then they can put me on ignore. I know I would do the same if I was in their shoes. And if the "BBS Karma" wants to continue to bite me in the ass, then I guess there isn't much I can do about it other than ignoring it.

moestavern19 - Sorry for getting personal with you; you won't have to worry about me attacking you anymore about anything personal. If you want to continue to insult me, then that's your prerogative but I am not going to get caught up playing that game with you because it is too easy to do.

Glad that I could provide some drama and entertainment for you geeks. Y'all must be as bored as I am!

Facts about my life? Look dude - I don't care what you say. I think everybody on this board knows that I was a virgin until I got married. I also think that most people know I went to Greece to meet a woman. It didn't work out which turned out great for me because I wound up meeting the most beautiful woman ever in my wife. Have I had a hard time adjusting to that? Sure but most people would if they were in my position. My biggest mistake, obviously, was giving details about my personal life on this board. Believe me - I'll never make that mistake again!

But I find it hilarious that you want to "blackmail" me or extort me with stupid **** that happened like 5 and 6 years ago - how about I came into the chatroom one time under a different name "Fernandez". I mean I had forgotten about that until you brought up the other day. Contrary to your beliefs, I don't talk about the BBS or the chat rooms when I have real life calling me. I'm sorry if that is a disappointment to you. And I'm also sorry if it is a disappointment to you that I have no desire of having this great "credibility" on this board. As I said earlier, either people like my posts or they don't. It is nothing to take personal, moes.

And I would gladly keep my life over yours anyday, but you do probably have the better Internet life, so you have got me on that one.

1.) I don't remember declining that offer. I just said you probably wouldn't like to realize just how many people think you're a flake. Thats all. If you want to get Macho Man Randy Savage on my jabroni ass feel free.

2.) Isn't it bad form to try and take the high road when you were previously in the gutter?

    I digress...

Go ahead and start the thread or I can start it. I honestly don't think you know what you are getting yourself into, but I can live without being on this board. Can you?

bad form? More like I got tired of it. I did consider you to be a friend one time, Derek, so I figured I would at least try to do the mature thing. I usually take the high road all the time when I don't get along with people - whether it's in real life or on the Internet. Guess it is called trying to be the "bigger person".

Edit: Sorry, between distractions it took me long enough to post this that I ended up following a resurgence of moes vs manny '07. I apologize, please ignore my post. Flame on guys!

I'll pile on and agree this is a great post. I couldn't name a Cheap Trick song (ok, ok, I Want You to Want Me), but I'm always amazed at how many prominent people name drop them. I will say I don't totally agree, but I can't argue w/ your well thought out logic.

(Not totally directed at you: ) I think some people here are looking for bands that educated music geeks would appreciate a little more then the average person. I understand why, and where you're coming from. But I also think of GARB as a band that is so influential not only to other musicians in the know, but to your casual listener driving on the way to work. It doesn't mean it has to be a mainstream sell out band, but I think it needs to be a band w/ a slightly higher level of recognition. I think Cheap Trick is on the cusp but doesn't make it. I'd love to vote Devo for their combination of originality, influence, and great hit songs, but I still think they fall a little short in popularity.

I don't know Jon, you've been the one so keen at starting polls lately.

And now you're trying this outlandish poll to somehow prove that you don't take the BBS too seriously.

That is probably the best thing about this... even in the midst of a great drama you remain humorous... like a clown being something something.

    Agreed.

I personally think popularity, longevity, originality, and influence are all very important.

Here's how I would rank them:
    Aerosmith 21 P:9 L:9 O:1 I:2
    Pearl Jam 23 P:7 L:4 O:6 I:6
    The Eagles 21 P:8 L:7 O:2 I:4
    Van Halen 26 P:5 L:6 O:7 I:8
    Guns and Roses 12 P:2 L:3 O:4 I:3
    Nirvana 15 P:4 L:1 O:5 I:5
    The Doors 9 P:3 L:2 O:3 I:1
    The Ramones 26 P:1 L:8 O:8 I:9
    Beach Boys 27 P:6 L:5 O:9 I:7

According to my "very scientific" findings, the winner is The Beach Boys, followed closely by Van Halen and the Ramones.

Wierd. I don't like the Ramones at all.

    :D

Giving Aerosmith a "1" on originality is just stupid. They recreated themselves a few times over, and were instrumental in bring rap into the mainstream.

I was in this band when I was younger that was probably the Greatest American Rock Band.

We were really awful at first, and we changed our name every time we played so people wouldn't avoid our shows. The best name we had was Rigor Phallus. We got in fights on stage, once with each other, a couple of the times with the audience. I got arrested for indecent exposure after playing a show on LSD. We once played 'Freebird,' all of it (except for the last, because the soundguy literally pulled the plug) three times during a single set (even once stopping in the middle of one of our own songs because someone in the audience yelled FREEBIRD). We were banned from half the clubs in our town. Our songs had so many stutters and tempo changes that people had difficulty determining where one song stopped and another one started, a difficulty compounded by the fact that at least half the band was usually balls-out drunk (bartender: "I like your songs, but why do you have so many of them?" - after a 6 song set).

So, there. The Greatest American Rock Band of All Time was RIGOR PHALLUS. It doesn't matter that you've never heard them.

I like the Cheap Trick pick. They were the first band I ever saw in concert (that I chose to go see...I saw John Denver and people at the Rodeo when I was little) at the Sam Houston Colosseum in 1982. I think they were great. They just aren't best American band material. Badfinger and Big Star did what they did (remodel the Beatles into a shiny pop pop sheen) first and better. I'm not dissing them, though. I love Cheap Trick.

By all rights, the Beach Boys are probably the pick. They were original, their best albums rank with anybody and they sold more records than God (or even Slim Whitman!). Brian Wilson is one the handful of true geniuses in pop music. I deducted a billion points from them, however, because of three things: Mike Love's general douchery, The John Stamos Era and not putting a good album out since the 1970's.

For my money, Talking Heads are the one. Their sound was completely original, influential and timeless. They also had hit records and relatively long career. They were a band that could make you dance and think. Their progression from album to album was akin to the Beatles, or David Bowie. I can't think of another band who is remotely comparable.
