Cinematography - it is the one thing that really distinguishes a good director from a bad one. Even a low budget film can have fantastic cinematography, and it doesn't take fancy toys to accomplish.

The worst thing about CGI is the unnatural color and clarity to it. It doesn't even remotely resemble reality, and makes everything look like a cartoon.

Of course, my second favorite visual aspect(s) are hot actresses.

Would you consider creative/well-timed editing to be a "visual aspect". There's isn't anything I like more from a movie than a well edited scene... well aside from good acting, well-written dialogue and ingenuity of plot.

I like the cinematography work done by Christopher Doyle in movies such as In the Mood for Love and 2046. Each frame is like a painting. Just beautiful.

Nothing beats a good car chase... see Ronin and the Bourne Supremacy for further details.

there's a rule against using real names?

    I'm fine with it.

Tracy McGrady, there, I said it.

...best car chase ever was Terminator 3...you got a fire truck chasing a big crane truck chasing a regular car, all the while the crane is smashing through every building imaginable while Arnold is on it...

    LOL! Good response.

Uhhh... no, there aren't any rules... but there are unsubtle differences between Tracy McGrady and the person mentioned in his post... :D

Hell yeah. That car chase scene alone vaulted T3 up to "good movie" status in my book. I know a lot of people didn't like it, though.

I have to put the Bourne Supremacy chase at least on the same level, however. Partly because of the adrenaline factor. I saw that movie in the theater and during that scene, towards the end when Matt Damon's character popped the car into reverse, spun around and veered off while the villain's car careened into that barrier...it took all my will-power to not jump to my feet, point my finger at the screen and yell "YEAH. SUCK IT b****!" It was that good.

Nope... Steve McQueen in Bullitt, 1968. Just about every car chase scene in cinema was modeled after this one, and McQueen does the driving himself. In my opinion, you can't top the original, and Peter Yates' direction is brilliant.

This movie was playing on some HD channel a couple weeks ago and both times I happened to turn it on when that scene was on. Great, great scene.

However, my favorite chase scene of all-time is in The French Connection.
