..on his last day. It's not like he's Michael Jordan or some great icon. I think he will always get a cheer, but I wonder who will give him the most support and least? And what will UTah do?

Most: I say LA. They seem to be very knowlegeable fans and have a respect for the game. Standing ovation for several minutes.

Least: Tough one, but maybe Pheonix or NY will give him a rough time.

"It's not like he's Michael Jordan or some great icon."

He should be, though...

I think he'll get his biggest ovations from the local venues. Dallas did a great job of sending off Clyde the last game he played at Reunion Arena and the Rockets gave the Alamodome a lot of ticket sales for two games back in 96-97... After what Boston did for Chuck, you gotta think that they'll give Dream something of note. Afterall, he did play against them in the Finals and they even wanted to trade for him back in the day.

As for Utah, they showed respect for Clyde, so I think that they'll crawl out from under their rock and do the same for Dream.

However, I think the only people in LA that will give Dream props are Jack Nicholson and Shaq.

Celtics fans will treat him like royalty. Knicks will also give him special treatment. The east didn't get to see as much of Dream as the west, so I think they appreciate him a little more.

MY GOD!!!!!as soon as 5 years go by, he is in the Hall of Fame, he was one of the best centers to ever play the game, I have seen WIlt and Shaq, and Bill Russell, they all think Hakeem is one of the ALL-TIME top 3..

HE is very much a superstar, an ICON, a positive role model........

that was kinda not to nice to say up there, about not like he's an icon or anything, if he isn't nobody is........

i've wondered about this but do ya'll think his lack of fame has to do with his background....i mean when he first came to the united states he wasn't as well spoken like jordan..i think he wasnt' as well spoken and not always easily understood so he didn't get as much attention..that is the one thing i regret..i think people havne' tgiven him his props because of the fact that he isn't a francis, jordan etc that is the type to be all over tv doing adds..he is an humble guy and i think the media wasn't as good to him as they should have been partaly because he has a differnt background than others...i'm not saying anything bad about hakeem i am not the t ype to speak in public and sound good myself so i can kinda feel for him.....i know i woudnt' want to be having to do commericials etc and woulndt' feel good up there so probably woudln't do them and i t hink that has hurt hakeem...what do ya'll t hink? i think a lot of the national media didnt' know about his backgroudn and couldn't always easily understand him so didn't give him his props.....and i think a lot of kids never knew about him because he wasn't the type to wear nikes etc...do ya'll think his background has something to do with it..he isn't anything like today's kids out of high schhool right to the nba

All I know is that everytime the Rockets play on NBC, they'll have either Hannah Storm or Bob Costas doing this dramatic, sob story on Hakeem. How great he was and all.

How he's passing the team on to Stevie.

I'll bet money thats gonna happen.

As far as cities giving him the best send off: NY, Utah (yes, Utah) and SA will give him great sendoffs.

PhiSlammaJamma, What do you mean when you say Hakeem is no Jordan, I mean that really makes no sense to bring that idiot jordan's name in this. The only difference between jordan and Hakeem is Jordan got all the calls and Hakeem got nothing. Hakeem never got his fair share of calls as oppossed the Mj who received all the unfair calls. Hakeem is Houston Sports and everything that Houston is too this day. Every arena in the NBA will give him a standing ovation because the know he was the best of all time.

Since when are LA fans knowledgable of the game? I always thought they were a bunch of movie stars who just jump on the bandwagon when the team is doing well. Oh well.

Historically, Hakeem gets no respect. Hopefully, every venue will show profound appreciation for the man. I can honestly see Utah giving him the raw deal though. Remember when they were playing that "Walk like a Nigerian" song on the radio there after dream made a comment about MailMan's flops. Those people are not nice in any way towards anything Houston. I have been to Salt Lake during the regular season and let me tell you, they hate the Rox with a passion. This suits me just fine because it justifies my hatred toward them and their crappy team and their crappy city and their crappy state. I wont know what to do if they give Hakeem a standing ovation. It may be the end of a rivalry.

Is it just me or is it just me?

Coach always has the similar answers to every question or topic posted on this BBS.

Is it just me?

Anyways...

I think every NBA team that has a great center that played against Dream will cheer him. And those centers will say all the right things when they hand them the mike. I also would not rule out Barkley, Malone and/or Jordan making an appearance in one of the arenas this year and saying nice things about Dream.

I expect Shaq to drool over him and Robinson to give him alot of credit. Ewing will remember the days when they battled in college.

There is alot of respect for Dream. I don't think there will be one bad place this year. I think he will get standing ovations from everyone.

Playmaker your gonna bet money Hakeem passes the torch to Stevie, yeah I do too.

Because its gonna happen whether we like it or we don't , and Frankly I love it...

Utah, can boo him if they want, but their "Superstars", and I almost hate calling them that, because they both are DIRTY, will never win a ring, their best chance was 2 years ago, that FLOOPITY FLOPPITY, DIRTY Karl Malone is a choker himself, and they are so so sooooooo old, they will never win a ring, Karl keeps threatening to leave, **** he better he isn't gonna win there......

So your all right, they will probably boo him, hell Karl Malone may go out and trip him during the ceremonies, BUT only because they are mad, that we WALKED right over them on our way to the TOP

.

HAKEEM IS BEAUTIFUL............HAKEEM IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME BESTS, and HE BETTER BE TREATED LIKE ONE>>.....or I WILL never watch a game again, and nobody should, if that ever happens.......

I just hope he is recovered enough to be able to go out on his own terms.

He may not be able to play this year, I think he deserves a standing ovation in every arena.

Hakeem was a warrior, and is well respected, whats more he did it with class. Hakeem brought the city of Houston its' only 2 championships, and I for one am extremely greatful that I got to root for one of the best and classiest to ever don a NBA uniform.

What the heck, I am giving him a standing ovation right here, right now.

It iz mackin it herd to tipe, i thinkkk i sea Lhutz;s problum.

Hakeem, Thanks for everything !!!

There were great centers in the National Basketball Association.....and then there was Hakeem Olajuwon.
Those that don't show a deep appreciation of this fact will only show their ignorance.
NBC can hype that gorrilla in LA all they want, but he'll never come anywhere close.
My hat's off to the Dream.

I think the most knowlegable fans wil give him the best salutes. Namely New York, Indiana, Boston, Philly and the two Texas teams even more so because of the inter-state rivalry. L.A will be the meekest cheering (whats new), and Vancouver and Toronto will be the quietest simply because their fans as a whole are not as intact with game of basketball. If Utah ends up booing Hakeem, all the more reason to hate them.

I think the Admiral may kindly ask Hakeem to hand back his jockstrap from '95 as well.

No I dont think Utah will boo hakeem. The place I think hakeem gets the most cheers other than here is in LA. The crowd is always cheering for him no matter what.

GO HAKEEM GO!

Hakeem is the most respected player in the NBA without question, by fans, players, and management. New York, Indiana, and San Antonio seem to jump out as the cities that would give him the most respect, with LA, Portland, Dallas, and Orlando close behind. I just hope that the local papers remind fans that this will be Dream's last stop in their arena.

But the most important thing is that this farewell tour goes a lot better than the last Rocket's.

I honestly believe that he will get one of the classier sendoffs in every arena in the league. If not , we all make a pact to make a trip to the offending city that doesn't and burn the stinking rathole!

My hope is that Hakeem's last game isn't like Clyde's. Remember in game 5 against Utah, Clyde was having a off-game and was benched with a few minutes left? The fans gave him an ovation, but it was sad to see one of the greats go like that.

I moved from houston 7 years ago, and the main (if not only reason) I have stayed a Rockets fan is because of Dream. The only reason he isn't viewed as "great" as jordan is because (a) he didn't turn himself into a marketing commercial, and (b) he isn't as goodlooking as jordan. I don't think that the media will bill his last year as being a "farewell tour" like they did with Chuck, but for the long-time rockets fans, it'll be something (and I usually hate it when this word is used in sports): special.

Hakeem will probably get respect from everyteam in the league, mainly because of his reputation as a nice guy and good person.
