Quote:
Barely three weeks after surgery to repair a sports hernia and torn abductor muscles, Rockets guard Kyle Lowry returned to the Toyota Center weight rooms and went through shooting drills on the practice court.

But as he leaves town Saturday, he does not know if he’ll return to those familiar facilities or if he wants to be back.

Lowry does not believe he and Goran Dragic, his successor as the starting point guard this season, will both return to the roster next season. Lowry was even less confident he and Rockets coach Kevin McHale can successfully coexist.

“I don’t think so,” Lowry, 26, said. “I honestly think it would be tough. Things have to be addressed. The situation would have to be addressed.

“If things aren’t addressed coaching-wise, I guess I have to be moved.”
And on bringing back Goran Dragic.

Quote:
Lowry considers Dragic worthy of the attention, but he said having both point guards likely would not work.

“I would say I don’t think so,” Lowry said. “We’re both capable starters. We both want it. It’s going to have to be a situation where they make a decision on one of us.

“It has nothing to do with Goran. I’m not happy with the way coaches handled things. If management wants to do something to keep Goran, I think I’ll have to be moved.

Those are FO issues..... You notice that is going to affect future players also.
Goran has another mindset partly because he is a Euro, but you can't say we are only playing Euros from now on.

Darn...... Rockets missing the playoffs and now this.... well hopefully we can rebuild from scratch

Well, that puts us in a bad spot:

Lowery is pissed but is under contract.
Dragic is happy but not under contract.

Sucks to be a Rockets fan these days.

Both of them had breakout seasons last year, giving the team two good, young point guards. When was the last time that happened to a team in one season? If they can manage to keep Dragic and Lowry becomes a key piece of a trade that improves us at another position, I'd say it's a pretty good time to be a Rockets fan.

How is that a bad spot lol? Trade Lowry and sign Dragic. How hard is that?

Would be nice if we could trade Lowry + #14 for a top 8 pick.

we could do Lowry+Scola for Gasol and possibly a top ten pick if we can find a 3rd team and maybe ship Patterson/Morris/Bud to that team.

I got more and more frustrated as the season progressed about how much Lowry acted like a baby on the court, and now he's acting like a baby on the court. I will not be sad at all to see him gone.

Thank you, Lowry, for driving down your trade value. Your rep as a headcase has been solidified. I just hope we can get a decent return for your ass.

Par for the course for the Rockets and trade value... they can't trade a guy until his trade value has been completely torpedoed

Lowry's right though... not about McHale really (as far as I know), but about Dragic. Lowry isn't a backup point guard at this stage after what he's been able to do -- the Rockets were pushing for him to get All-Star votes just 3-4 months ago. Dragic is an unrestricted free agent and you're not keeping him with the promise of making him a backup. And it's a waste in so many ways to think you play two point guard together in order to keep them on the same lineup.

It's simple logic. You trade Lowry.

On one hand, Morey and McHale sound like they are saying what's best for the team-- you don't want to say a guy is "not fitting in" even if you intend to trade him (or even explore trading him) because it doesn't do anything for his trade value.

On the other hand, even if Lowry is disgruntled, I'm not sure he has to be traded. A disgruntled (and apparently injured) Lowry played pretty well last year until the infection. There are plenty of players who are perpetually grumpy but still productive (Sam Cassell was not happy with his pay rate for most of his career). You don't have to be happy with everything to be a productive professional.

It's just kind of Lowry being Lowry. If, come next season, Lowry is still on the roster, Dragic is back and McHale is still the coach, I expect these guys to figure things out and be professionals even if none of them is happy about it. The goal of sports team is not to maximize everyone's happiness, it's to win games.

In the end, I'm sure the Rockets will look at trades involving Lowry, as they do with every player on the roster, but they are not going to make a trade just to make Lowry happy unless they think it's good for the team, too.
