He's been a starter for how long now? One would think that this would be a HUGE individual point of emphasis for him. He has Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry, Courtney Lee, Bud (great free throw shooters) ALL on his team and he can't work with them one on one to help improve his shot? Remember how terrible Chuck Hayes was 2 years ago? Last year he was half way decent. Parsons NEEEEEEDs to drastically improve his FT% if he's going to be a starter on our team. What do you guys think it is? Nerves? Form?

On his 2nd FT, he should be throwing the ball off the rim to himself for a tip jam.

Compressed schedule means no time to practice. I suspect free throw shooting and shooting in general will be points of emphasis this offseason.

Something is up with his shooting mechanics because he's a bad shooter from everywhere, even his runners don't looks smooth...could be a mix of his height, long arms, and large hands(?) Shooting form isn't a one size fits all, otherwise everyone would shoot the same way. Probably needs an offseason with a shooting expert to completely change it.

unfortunately, it may be a case where his good body mechanics, which allow him to be athletic, especially at his height, will get in the way of proper shooting mechanics for him.

Not to be racist but I've rarely seen a Caucasian suck at free throws this much unless they were centers.

As Carl Herrara has pointed out. Parsons is breaking stereotypes!

Lol. Everyone should relax, it's just a summer of really focusing on it. Parsons has time we're not contending for anything this year anyway.

It's actually true. I checked the last 6 seasons. There appears to be only one or two non-center white guys below 60% for a season. So, Floyd Mayweather should just stay out of this thread.

How do you know he isn't already doing that? I suspect he is working hard on improving his free throw shooting.

That's why I think they need a shooting coach or a better shooting coach. You can practice all day long and if you have the wrong mechanics it really makes it a lot harder than it needs to be to improve.

It looks like he was a pretty bad FT shooter in college too.

2007-2008: 63%
2008-2009: 56%
2009-2010: 66%
2010-2011: 56%

In comparison, his 3-pt percentages in college weren't bad.

2007-2008: 37%
2008-2009: 36%
2009-2010: 30%
2010-2011: 32%

I don't know what's going on that's making it so difficult for him to hit his free throws, but he needs to get his act together and work on that facet of his game. Right now he is getting to the basket a lot and a lot of his effectiveness is lost when teams can take advantage of fouling him.

We miss Chuck Hayes so badly that his horrible free throw shooting has to live on in somebody...

Kid's just lost some confidence at the free throw line... It's happened to a lot of pretty good shooters I've had the pleasure of playing with. He'll get some confidence back with time. First post at CF!

btw: David Lee shot 57.5% his rookie year, and 82% his 2nd and 3rd (averaging near 80% ever since).
