It's like my aparment is jinxed when it comes to electronics. After two years of nightmare with our internet I switched my router. Now I got a 2Wire router/modem and have to manually click on my network and type in the WEP key everytime I turn on the comp or bring it back from standby.

I emailed 2Wire and SBC and they had the following to say:

The problem you are experiencing is a Windows based problem with the computer enabling the TCP/IP stacks form hibernation mode.

Anybody have any idea how to fix it?

Also, now my Windows refuses to recognize my printer even though my network does. If anybody can help me fix both these problems I'll give you a ONE MILLION dollars!

Turn off WEP? WEP is pretty weak encryption, and there are other ways to keep people off your network, such as MAC filtering.

Turning off WEP won't fix the problem. What version of Windows are you running?

I tried it anyways, and you are right, that did not help.

It should be an option on your router configuration. Your router documentation should tell you specifically how to do it.

Also, it sounds like your computer configuration is acting up. Sometimes Windows sometimes gets very strange bitrot. You may consider reinstalling Windows. Yeah, painful solution, but possibly necessary.

That sounds like you have WindowBlinds with an Apple skin. If you open Windows Explorer (or any other windows utility like Notepad) and go to Help/About it should show you what version of Windows you're running.

The easy fix would be to not let it go into hibernation mode. Hibernation mode is not necessary. Just allow your power option to turn off the monitor and hard drive and you will be OK. My computer is on all the time and I never have problems.

1) To find out what version of Windows. Click Start > Run > type in winver and click OK

2) Try disabling the "Power off" function on your wireless adapter. To do that click Start > Control Panel (or Settings > Control Panel) > double click on System > click Hardware tab > Device Manager > click the + next to Network Adapters section then double click on your wifi card (if you arent sure what your wifi card is just make the following change on all the items in this section) .... when the properties are open cick the Power Management tab and uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device" option..then click OK

Tried that too and it did not work.
