I will shortly be getting a new laptop, because my old one conked out on me.

The new one will be a customized HP dv9000z. Basic specs:

Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-56(1.8GHz)
2 GB RAM
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
Two 80GB Hard Drives.

My purpose in buying this system isn't games, but I'm wondering if someone who has Oblivion could tell me how they think it would run on this system.

Part of the reason I ask is actually because my fiance tried it on my brother's XBOX360, and she got addicted, but could only play for a few days...

I believe that's comparable, if not better than my current setup and it runs fine on mine.

I'm working with this...

ASUS A8N5X motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor
2 GB ram
ATi Radeon X800GTO 256MB graphics card

If you can wait it out, right now really is one of those rare periods to hold on just a bit. Nvidia is releasing a series of cards that not only outperforms the current best cards on the market but they cost half the price. Moreover, intel quad processors have just started to really hit the mainstream. Expect serious slashes in prices for current high performance hardware within the next couple of months

Cool... sounds like this system will run it alright, which is what I expected... I just wanted to be sure before I plopped down $70 + tax for the game and the expansion.

Dude, wish I could, but as an IT guy it's tough for me to survive long without one. And like I said, gaming ain't the end purpose anyway. I'm just glad my needs happen to align with my wants, in this instance.

If I ever want to get a real gaming machine (I'm sure I will, one day), it'll be a desktop. I really have nothing against desktops, I just need to lug this thing between my home, my office, and meetings. What I need my laptop to do is run HP Service Desk (ick), Outlook, MS Project (or whatever planning software I'm using that month), Firefox, Winamp, and often some sort of database program... all at once. Hence why I wanted a high-end machine. But not quad processor kinda high end. :D

(And if you're wondering why I got such a big screen, given that I'm gonna lug it everywhere... eh. I'm just a sucker for big screens.)

How would this run? I have:

Centrino @ 1.73 ghz with 504 RAM, according to the System control panel.

How do I figure out what kind of graphics card/info I have?

Right click My computer and go to properties
Click on the hardware tab then click device manager
this will bring up a list of device types
Click on Display adapter and it will tell you what you have

Pretty sure the minimum system requirements for any high-end modern game are going to include AT LEAST 512 RAM... so it wouldn't run well, if it'd even run at all.
