    It’s not a Dress! It’s a kilt!

    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/features/2729433

I am sure some of you guys know that I am an avid kilt wearer. I wear them to all station events, to the office once or twice a week, to family events, to the mall, pretty much wherever. I do not wear Utilikilts, the ones featured in the article, I wear kilts that my wife, Kearstin, makes. But they are essentially the same. Cargo pockets, belt loops, crazy fabric (not plaids), etc…)

They are the absolute best party attire and go over very well regardless of the crowd. Check that. I wore it to NASCAR in Ft. Worth and was called f*****-boy and the like a little bit but even there it was pretty well received.

So open discussion. Would you wear a kilt? Do you like them?

whatever floats your boat girlie-man... do you like sarongs too?

no, really... kilts have their time and place, but to a NASCAR event? Talk about loopy...I'd wear a kilt if I played bagpipes or were invited to a kilt wearing event, but never to NASCAR or a football game, unless again I was playing the national anthem on the bagpipes...

I have a kilt. My family's tartan is Black Watch, which isn't too bad actually.

If it isn't tartan, surely it's a skirt?

The drummer for one of my old bands in LA, of Scottish heritage, used to wear nothing except for a red plaid kilt whenever we played live. No shirt, no shoes, nothing except the kilt.

At the end of the set, he would always stand up from behind the drum kit and flash the audience.

I always wondered why we never got signed.

My family has Scottish ancestry, so wearing a kilt would not be something I would be opposed to doing. However, I doubt very seriously that I would get into wearing them like Chance.

This thread reminds me of an old thread where someone had found on the Internet a site about a guy who loved (and I guess still does) wearing skirts. It even had some pics of this guy parading around in his little skirts. But the funniest thing was that he (supposedly) signed onto the BBS and posted in the thread. Think his name was Dale or something. Man, the things I remember...:(

I didn't know you wore kilts, are you beings serious?

    Here's a reason why I'll never wear a kilt.

I wouldn't even call this a "trend". I never see anyone walking around it a kilt.

For most of those who do it is just a "look at me" ploy. Someone trying to be wacky or different. But more power too them. We all have our quirks and if some guy wants to wear a skirt I could care less.

I must thoughtfully respond I have never tried it, even though there's enough Scotch-Irish in me to warrent special-occasion wear.

I don't think I'd like the skirt free to the wind and my legs bare. I don't even wear shorts. I think I'd prefer pants, but again, I haven't tried it.

I do like the look my dance pants have with no pockets. It's not very practical, though. You have to carry a bag for your wallet and keys and dance shoes.

I don't mind doing exercise like Yoga in compression shorts. If your body is good from the exercise, it looks good. The man skirt doesn't look good to me, though. It's just a big triangle, worse, with a bunch of pockets. There's no body-consciousness. Perhaps if there were one in stretch poly - but that would just be a skirt skirt. Would you wear tights with that? Perhaps fishnets ;). Now, I'm just projecting what I like on women. It's not really the same reversed. Nevertheless, black tights make sense. More of an eighteenth century thing.

Overall, though, I can't say I'm down. I don't think it really makes a man look poised, athletic, sophisticated, or strong. Just kind of balls-out bold. There's something to that. Not really enough for me, though, or what I want think of as looking good.

So tell us, what is it about the look that "looks good" to you? What do you think you are enhancing, or what message are you sending that makes the look appealing to you.

    I am somewhat curious.

I wanted a kilt when I was four. The urge quickly passed.

You know, I may buy a Kilt when I live alone. I think I'd enjoy the freedom they offer. I don't want to walk around my house naked, but a Kilt is sort of like that. Your junk is unrestricted and you don't have to worry about sitting bare ass on your furniture. I wouldn't wear it in public though.

Chance, you must be working on a T-Mac song, if you don't already have one. If the Rox let you sing it at the arena, you need to perform in a Rocket's Kilt.
