In light of This Thread, I decided to post this new thread. I'm getting U-verse and wondering if anyone has gotten this service. Apparently its Digital TV and Digital wireless high speed internet from one box. I can record up to 4 shows at one time and I got a $100 rebate and one month free for choosing the UB400 package ($114). The uverse bill is seperate from my phone bill which is also AT&T. Its funny, b/c my complex only offers Ygnition cable services. I wanted to get Directv, but the way that my complex faces I coudn't, and I hear Dish network is bad (guess it really depends on customer). Ygnition wanted way too much money, like $175 to install. So I chose U Verse as a final result. So, anyone have it, any rants or raves would be appreciated. Tim
I had it for three months before my landlord moved out with the receiver (it was in his name). Actually getting U-verse up and running was an enormous pain in the ass. First I was given a defective box which had to be replaced by a technician, and then he left before making sure it actually worked, so I had to spent hours on the phone with a service rep while the poor b**** tried every trick in the book to get the damn thing to work. Finally it did, and I have to say that I really liked Uverse. I enjoyed having all the West-Coast feeds and every movie channel known to man. The internet service was fine, I didn't notice it to be especially fast or slow. There were other issues, though. Because I was sharing the service with the other residents of my duplex, I didn't have a DVR in my cable box, but I have heard that the DVRs are pretty bad and often "forget" to record things. The Video on Demand was also pretty substandard. They don't have a lot of movies and it takes months after the video release for them to add new releases. This really wasn't a big deal to me, but I can see how some people might get pissed. I don't have an HD TV so I can't speak for the quality of their HD lineup.
I have uverse, I didn't have any problems getting it set up. they came out the day of, and put it all together and we were up and running quite quickly. contrary to what hippieloser says, I think video on demand is phenomenal. if you have any of the premium channels, they'll have tons of movies you can watch for free from hbo...starz...etc. the dvr is nice, I like the web feature so I can go on at work and schedule games etc to be recorded. although it's not perfect, as sometimes I'll know they're playing and I can't find the game to record through it's search engine. I like it a lot overall, the internet is pretty stable and the speeds are decent (6down/1up). with that said it's a newer service and it is NOT perfect. some of the issues I have are, for example when I had time warner previous the hd quality was so awesome I couldn't live without sportscenter. uverse's hd quality is good, but it could be much better. the biggest gripe I have, is the slowness of the menus on the guide etc. it's killer. I'm told there's updates down the pipe that will fix this, as well as the hd quality but to date I haven't seen any (I've had uverse since late july). all in all, I give the service an 8.5/10. it's definitely recommended, but as I said -- it's not perfect. hopefully they will keep to their promises of constantly improving.
I had forgotten about that, this was a nice feature. I didn't mean to give the wrong impression... despite all of the hassles, I did enjoy Uverse and plan on ordering it again.
U-Verse has been fine for me so far. Good channel lineup and great picture quality on standard and HD channels. They added a few HD channels recently like History Channel HD. Hearing all the complaints about Comcast, looks I made the right decision when I dumped Time Warner for U-Verse back in April. I agree that their video on demand library is not as good as Time Warner's. I had no issues when it was installed. The only problem I had was adding FSSW to my channel lineup. A couple of phone calls to customer service and that was resolved.
Look at this site for more info: www.uverseusers.com It has been a great asset to me so far. I am planning on getting U-Verse once my home is built sometime in January.
I have had it for 3 months and I love it. It beats the crap out of Comcast. Not as good as when I had DirecTV though. Of course, back in the day, I had the hook-up on DirecTV.
