Just curious if anyone is planning on going to the inaugural gallery bowl. Being a Tech Alum, I'll be there with bells on. First game Tech has had in H-Town in five years. Here's a funny article about the game for Tech fans/haters, also. If anyone is planning on going, let me know. MacIngvale Excited About Texas Tech Likelihood Opponents for Inaugural Bowl Taking Shape > > November 13, 2000 Reuters/Associated Press (Houston, Texas) -- Opponents for the inaugural GalleryFurniture.com bowl became much more apparent this week as Texas Tech defeated Oklahoma State to become bowl eligible. Tech was also bowl eligible in 1999 but was not invited to a bowl. Gallery Furniture owner Jim "Matress Mac" MacIngvale celebrated the Tech victory Saturday. MacIngvale is renowned throughout the Houston area for selling cheap furniture under a tent to Houston's white trash community. "We always thought that Texas Tech would be the perfect fit for the GalleryFurniture.com bowl" MacIngvale said. "We have the last pick in the Big 12 and Tech is the last bowl eligible team anyone would want to pick." "We have great name recognition among the Tech community. Our marketing at tractor pulls, wrestling matches, and mobile home lots have always been popular among the Raider fan base. In fact, 83% of Tech graduates in Harris County live in mobile homes, and 94% of those have at least one product from Gallery Furniture. This game should help solidify our relationship." As Red Raider players left Jones SBC Stadium in Lubbock on Saturday, many were excited about clinching the bowl berth. Safety Kevin Curtis proclaimed, "We're going to the GalleryFurniture.com Bowl baby! Tech students were boisterous over the victory as many threw sofas, end tables, and dining room sets onto the field in celebration. Fans interviewed in the Houston area were also excited. A small group of about 15 fans were spotted celebrating at the Sheet Metal Pines Mobile Home Park on County Road 452. "About two dozen of us was listening to the radio in our landlord's office" said Skeeter McCoy of Lot 7. "We was shoutin 'Go Fight Win' and '2 bits, 4 bits, 6 bits, a dollar' all night." Several disorderly conduct citations were issued at the scene and McCoy's cousin, Jesse Tater of Lot7A, was taken into custody on a domestic violence charge. "Aw hell, we was just havin some fun" Tater said tearfully as he was being handcuffed. "I didn't mean to do it. Where are my flip-flops?"The GalleryFurniture.com bowl will be played on December 21 in a cow pasture near the Rosenberg Beer Barn. Tickets are $1.50 with an empty Coors can, and 500 tickets have been sold. ------------------ I got nothing.
Well, I will be at the game. I got stuck in the LF upper deck because I waited too long to buy my tix. I got to TX Tech, and its great that they get to have exposure in Houston rather than some city like Phoenix where it wouldn't do the school any good. I hadn't really noticed that many trailer-home dwelling Techsans, but maybe I just haven't been looking. I went to Texas Tech myself, but I'm skipping the galleryfurniture.com bowl. For one, I refuse to attend any bowl game that doesn't contain at least one capital letter. But also, I just have other stuff going on and won't be able to make the trek four hours south to catch the game. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
