Does this mean no Larry Smith, no Jim Boylen, etc.? Assistant Coaches are the ones that needed to go more than anyone...
Well, I am glad, Rudy has simply not gotten through to this team, and it will be great to have a new approach to it. LB, or JVG would be welcome. I think JVG would be better as LB is more of a vagabound type coach and likely to bolt at any minute. DD
Dammit! How could they get rid of Rudy?! !#(&%!(#T&@(#$^ Let's hope this is the biggest move they make this offseason...
I'd second Silas. But, I anticipate another year of sucking without Rudy T. A new coach means another year of transition and probably some roster overhaul to get players that will fit well in the new coach's style. Without even knowing who our next coach would be, I'm not expecting playoffs.
I cannot help but be very, very sad. Regardless of the outcome - who we get to replace him or if it is a much better coach...I will miss Rudy.
They are history!! thank god!! I hope!! Bringing in a already established NBA coach, will surely clean house. They will want people they know and trust for help. Not a bunch of video editors (outside of Mr. Mean).
I'm one of the many that wanted to see Rudy go, it had to happen, the players stopped listening to him. Sad day, hope he gets better.
If LB has still have the motivation and good health, we should take him over JVG. LB changed AI's game. Steve and Cat won't be difficult for him.
Les won't let Rudy go unless he has someone in the pocket right now. I guess JVG or Brown have talked to Les and a deal is close.
According to Vecsey, Van Gundy's a Cav. www.nypost.com/sports/35826.htm These moves are never done without a replacement already lined up. Too much organizational uncertainty otherwise. My guess (wishful thinking?) is that Brown will be the next coach.
Good luck Rudy - good luck for your health and your future career. I hope this can be handled with dignity. And I hope they will get new assistant coaches. Our assistant coaches suck. They are extremely bad, imho.
man, if they dont have a back-up, itll be disastrous coz who will yoo think will coach the rockets? larry smith? oh god!!! bring larry brown to the rocs!!!
as much as i appreciate what rudy has done for the rockets organization over the years, it really seems like this was the best move. when you have countless basketball "experts" questioning rudy's game plan by seasons end (not to mention this board), something's gotta give. i wish him the best of luck in the front office. but let's bring on Van Gundy!!
http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0523/1558232.html HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich is negotiating a financial settlement for the final two years of his contract with owner Les Alexander and could step down as head coach, according to a broadcast report Friday. KRIV-TV reported that it is unclear if Tomjanovich, who has been with the franchise as a player, scout or coach for 33 years, would remain with Rockets in another capacity. The Houston Chronicle also reported the talks on its Web site Friday after interviewing the coach. "I can't comment on that. I'm sorry. I just can't talk about that right now,'' Tomjanovich told the newspaper. The television station said unidentified sources have said the negotiations, which have continued throughout the week, have been amicable. Tomjanovich has $12 million left on his contract. "Unfortunately, we are not at liberty to comment,'' team spokesman Nelson Luis told The Associated Press Friday. "I can't confirm or deny anything at this point.'' Tomjanovich missed the final 17 games of last season after he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Tomjanovich is 503-397 in 12 seasons as the Rockets coach, leading the team to back-to-back championships in 1993-94 and 1994-95. He is the winningest coach in franchise history. His number was retired in 1982 after he played 11 seasons with the Rockets. He is the third-leading scorer in franchise history with 13,383 points and was a five-time NBA All-Star. His current contract, agreed to in 2000, was set to keep him in town until 2005.
