sitting at my desk and heard fire engines outside, moments later a loud bang, and thick black smoke covered my windows (i'm on the 10th floor). my first thought was a manhole cover had blown, something that's been happening a lot with the snow melting. got downstairs and there's a white rental delivery van, covered in smoke, with firefighters everywhere. my super said a guy got in and turned the key, and it burst into flames. he ran across the street, and the **** blew up. the flames shot 20 ft. into the air. uploading some video now. van was totally destroyed, but everyone/thing else seems ok.
UWS is an odd place for a car bombing. I remember Tony Montana was supposed to do it in front of the UN building.
not really, although this stretch of 72nd would be weird i think. the JCC a few blocks away has crash barriers all around it. Condi did hold a meeting across the street during the UN opening a few years back, lots a guys w/ machine guns were running around, but she was just in some (apparently) random 5 story office building.
