My favorite! Recent purchases from the last week: Sigur Ros ( ) Audioslave Roots (Phrenology) Polyphonic Spree (The Beginning Stages of...) Frank Black (Teenage of the Year) Missy Elliott (Under Construction)' Primal Scream (Evil Heat) Gza (Legend of the Liquid Sword) Drive-by Truckers (Southern Rock Opera) George Harrison (Brainwashed) Polyphonic Spree (The Beginning Stages of...) The Soundtrack of Our Lives (Behind the Music) I haven't listened to all these enough yet, so excluding all those listed above my "early" top ten of the year is: 1. Wilco (Yankee Foxtrot Hotel) 2. And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead (Source Tags & Codes) 3. El-P (Fantastic Damage) 4. Beck (Golden Age) 5. Queens of the Stone Age (Songs for the Deaf) 6. Bruce Springsteen (The Rising) 7. Doves (The Last Broadcast) 8. Flaming Lips (Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots) 9. Streets (Original Pirate Material) 10. Interpol (Turn on the Bright Light) I think I've bought about 50 CDs that were released this year.
It's amazing that I just got home from buying 2 CD's. * The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Soundtrack. Superb music * Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits. It's funny...I never liked Elvis until this year. Now I can't get enough of his music.
6 CDs Def Leppard - X Christina Aguilera - Stripped Janet - janet. Savage Garden - Affirmation Shania Twain - Up! Aerosmith - Big Ones
Good tastes, but I wouldn't buy that second CD because of my lack of money. However, if she put out a DVD named that, I'd find the money.
In the car, it's The Wiggles CD "Yummy, Yummy." (Just finished a trip with the kids.) "Hot Potato" is the stand out song but "Fruit Salad" and "Crunchy Munchy Honey Cakes" are both catchy little tunes that don't get old until the third or fourth time. (The things you do for your kids.) On my PC at work, I've got Mozart's "The Magic Flute," as I find it hard to work and contribute to the Hangout when Rock's on. On the CD at home, I have my two favorite Christmas cds, The Alligator Records Christmas Collection and Alligator Stomp #4: Cajun Christmas Here's the Amazon review I wrote for Cajun Christmas a few years ago... "Cajun Christmas" provides a fresh interpretation of many Holiday standards and a smattering of Louisiana originals that are true to the spirit of the season. If you are tired of the traditional arrangements and appalled at dogs and cats massacring your favorites, this CD is the perfect antidote. Two strong tracks by Beausoleil, "Christmas Bayou" and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" lead off the compilation, the latter interpreted as a Cajun waltz. "Joy to the World" is a bouncy, upbeat combo of fiddle and accordian that will lighten the hearts of the most fervent Scrooge. It's hard not to dance to "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls." The layers of instruments and the upbeat tempos create a celebratory tone in these tunes that has disappeared through repetition of the more familiar arrangements. The final song, "Auld Lang Syne," is the best. Michael Doucet starts out with a slow, mellow fiddle but soon turns from the remembrance of the past year to the anticipation of the New Year with a rollicking finish that compels you to bounce around the house. While all the tracks are strong contributions, the greatest value of this CD is the regeneration of spirit one feels. The old songs seem new and the cumulative effect is to take some of the cynicism out of the increasingly commercialized season. As an added plus, kids seem to respond to the music, which can open up all kinds of discussions about music, history, and of course, Christmas. The "Christmas Collection" is as good or better. Both are highly recommended.
Eminem - The Eminem Show And some CD-R's I made containing video game music from various games. I also picked up Nas - God's Son today, so that CD will see some time in my CD player shortly.
