I recently burned Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys and have been playing it in the truck...It boggles me why nobody bought this masterpiece. I guess Ad Rock, MCA, and Mike D were just too far ahead of their time for thier own good.

I think my next CD purchase will be Check Your Head

Bob Drake - The Skull Mailbox and Other Horrors.
Genuinely creepy kinda-prog music. It's funny too. Most of the songs are under a minute long. Apparently, this guy records most of his music in a barn - which would account for the odd background noises on some tracks. One of my favorite albums right now. Go listen: http://www.bdrak.com/sounds/bdsmb.htm (for some mp3 excerpts).

    Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain.
I thought this would be too hipster for my tastes. It's not. Heavier than any Heavy Metal, complex like jazz (sometimes) - and it's just bass and drums and some noises.

Al Green - Al Green Explores Your Mind
No comment necessary. If you don't like Al Green, you don't like soul, and I hate you for it.

    Television - Marquee Moon.
And oldie but goodie. Marquee Moon, the song, is classic, and you must hear it if you like guitar music at all. It would be twice as good if it was half as long though.

    Firehose - Flyin' The Flannel
Obligatory Mike Watt album. I like some of the songs on this better than a lot of Minutemen stuff, though I'm sure the purists would lynch me for saying that.

Vincent & Mr. Green - Vincent & Mr. Green
Another Green. If they still made good noir movies, this would be the soundtrack to all of them. Weird, elliptical, sorta-trip-hop. Jade Vincent's deep, sultry voice gives me a boner. It's on Mike Patton's label, Ipecac.

Top to bottom, that may be my favorite Beastie cd. It's probably the one most heaviest influence by rock, but has plenty of hip hop complementing it. I think it's also where they starting experimenting more with playing their own instruments.....

    Regardless, good stuff....

    GAY-C/DC :D

I gave a copy of Avenged Sevenfold to my headbanging friend and he said it was too headbanging for him. I liked for one quick listen because it sounded like Yes and Metallica together but I doubt I could make it through it again.

As always I appreciate these threads, especially right before I have to do a hoilday road trip. Nothing makes the highway more enjoyable than totally
nu(de) music. It's helps to have a brief description though.

Ah, two Roxy Music albums that I can't stand. I like the obvious stuff: Avalon, For Your Pleasure.

Yea, those 2 you mentioned along with "Country Life" are my 3 favorites by them (although "Siren", "Flesh + Blood", and "Stranded" all have their strong points just not as consistent as my favorite 3). But I am a hard-core Roxy fan, so I have to give the dregs some love from time to time!

It's pretty good. Every song has a different and unique intro and the songs are mixed up with guitar solos and such. If you're a first time listener, then the lead singers voice will sound like garbage but I got used to it and think his voice is fine.

Even though this I have no complaints with this album, I'd say get Waking the Fallen first.
