Good move. I hope he admit that he knew about Wright's view long time ago (technically this won't contradict his HuffPost statement). He should also apologize for putting Wright on his relgious committee. If he can do both, I think he can get some points back.
This is such incredible bullcrap. I am sure every sermon delivered in the presence of John McCain, George Bush, Hillary Clinton, Ronald Reagan and Charlie Crist have been utterly unoffensive. <embed src="http://www.theonion.com/content/themes/common/assets/videoplayer/flvplayer.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" wmode="transparent" width="400" height="355" flashvars="file=http://www.theonion.com/content/xml/68210/video&autostart=false&image=http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/BULL****.jpg&bufferlength=3&embedded=true&title=Poll%3A%20Bull****%20Is%20Most%20Important%20Issue%20For%202008%20Voters"></embed><br/><a href="http://www.theonion.com/content/video/poll_bull****_is_most_important?utm_source=embedded_video">Poll: Bull**** Is Most Important Issue For 2008 Voters</a> I'm going to hazard a guess that people will be going with the "Obama is going down with (insert bullcrap here)" until well into his second term.
I agree - he needs to be open and honest and very upfront about any mistakes he made. Otherwise, it's going to continue to follow him around. People are OK with mistakes, as long as people are willing to admit they made them.
So how in the world did W get away with pretending he never made a mistake? There is some is some wisdom in what W did do. He made vaguely admissions to problems in his youth. And from then on, he told all that asked that he said what he had to say and that was that.
While he didn't talk in detail about it, he did essentially say he messed up. This goes well beyond politics, though. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens have steroids issues because they try to act innocent when people don't believe them. No one cares that Giambi & Pettitte did steroids - because they came out and addressed it and admitted they were wrong (regardless of sincerity). Bush, if he had admitted in 2004 or 2005 that his Iraq strategy was wrong, wouldn't be quite so hated today. It's the arrogance about it that's killed him. On the flipside, after Bill Clinton's affair, once he admitted he messed up and asked for forgiveness, his popularity rebounded. It's a general trait in Americans love/hate relationship with celebrities - we like humility and are forgiving when people ask for it. But we turn on them when they stubbornly avoid it.
Major, Being well behaved while trying to get elected may not be the best strategy to get elected. Once elected, I agree with your assessment.
Did you read Meowgi's post in its entirety? Newsmax stands by their report. They think either Obama's people lying or he attended church but he also attended other events that day.
If so, then he shouldn't be on the high horse. What happen to Spitzer might also happen to him. Not the prostitution problem but the hypocrisy problem.
Yes, I read the story. Have you ever read Newsmax? It's absurd... one guy in southern FL who's bankrolled by Scaife and pays right-wing paparazzi and party elites to write articles for a website. Here's their official clarification: Now, if this reporter attended the sermon in question... and if he saw Obama there nodding his head in approval, wouldn't he know which service it was? Hard to confuse an early morning and early evening service, no? Instead of a straightforward statement like "Obama was at the 7:30 service," we get this: And then there's this...
Yes, the part about rich white people is not anti-white at all. After all the good pastor was taught by jesus to love his enemies ("rich white people"), and to not be reduced to their level of hate, bigotry, and small mindedness.
Rascism is hardly confined to America. Travel basically anywhere in the world and you can see some real nasty stuff for yourself very quickly. America does seem to be the only country consumed with never-ending guilt over it though that's probably a good thing. "God Damn America" because of racism is a pretty ignorant statement however.
That's exactly right. The worst racism I've ever seen is a tie between Eastern Europe (Slovakia/Czech Republic) and South Africa. It puts everything I've ever seen in Texas or the Deep South to shame. They are open about it and flaunt it. And it comes out within 10 minutes of meeting someone. It's unreal. America by comparison is extremely tolerant.
