Now that we have finally caught Landry we need Deke. I think his affect on the team is very under rated. He is a great person who has no ego and is always in a good infectious mood. With all the great players we have we need a person like Deke in the team. Il go as far as to say that with out Deke's good energy it could take a championship away from us.

i agree. he is a solid guy. he needs a ring to and knowing him even though is 53 years old he will find a way to get a few blocks this year.

I agree that Deke is a great motivator. Let's see what unfolds.

Completely agreed. I hope Adelman doesn't wait until Yao's foot falls off again before giving him some minutes.

No question Deke is a man with great spirit. The problem is, he can barely make an wide open lay up anymore. With Yao being prone to injury, it's really hard for me to see Deke as an ideal and effective back up center for the Rockets.

I agree we need Deke in the locker room, on the bench and if Yao (knock on wood) goes down.

But I also like to add that Barry will bring similar qualities too.

LOL!! god me too... when I play as HOU on NBA 2k8, Deke is definitely at least getting 10-15 minutes (I like to play the long 40 minute games), and he is a BEAST!!! Please sign him!!

I agree with the OP, if we don't have Deke, our chances of a ring are going to go down considerably. Deke keeps everyone in check, b/c after all, he's like 65 and who is going to disrespect a 65 year old LEGEND!?

Combine this thread with the Anne Hathaway Backdoor Sushi thread and you got yourself a thread.

I agree, Deke is instrumental to this team, plus if by the grace of God we get out of the first round and Deke isn't a part of this team, I'd cry. He was there for all the heartache, he should be there and finish his career in style, nothin's more stylish than a ring baby.

Morey said this today on Deke:

"I think with Dikembe we're still discussing it. There will probably be news on that over the next few days."

We do not NEED Deke but his presence in the locker room as a leader will help a lot.

We really need Deke..Morey should make a room for him..we gotta package Hayes,Head and Francis...Dorsey will make Hayes redundant..i'm happy w/ our PF rotation...Scola and 2 athletic Landry & Dorsey (he'll also be the 2nd or 3rd stringer Center..)

I think the Rockets would wait to early midseason to sign Deke. He is a valuable piece to our puzzle. His defense and rebounding can not be overstated. I think they will let Dorsey settle in get some minutes in the first half of the season. Morey will do some trades to cut down the luxury cost then will offer Deke a deal to come in.

No they needed to see how Landry fits in the mix. Based on his money situation they were going to make a decision, plus, i don't know how true it is, but I heard Dorsey was was flip flopping between us and the Texans.

can a player be signed as a coach w/o applying for retirement?

I know the aaron mckie situation last year took advantage of a similar loophole, but in that instance I think he had already applied for retirement and was reinstated...

can anyone clear this up? my memory is fuzzy

regardless, I think Deke needs to be on the payroll
