I couldnt have said it better. I usually keep track of these threads because I like to know what people from the ME really think. From what I have read, they are as fanatical and narrowminded as I believed.
You know, If God tells me to kill someone, I'll be happy to do it. Some people have different views, but if God suddenly spoke to you one day when you were alone and told you that homosexuals were people that he hates with all his might, and that you should bring them to justice just as he describes...and you truly BELIEVE it's God, your CREATOR, talking to you... Then I dare you to say no. If taken out of context, it says that. Allah means God. And the people of the book (5 religions) are not "non-believers". No, it does not say make war on them, it says if they opress you, defend yourself. It does not say you enslave them - at many points in history, Jews have lived with Muslim. Yes, they had to pay a tax, but that's because they lost in war and wanted to live on Muslim land despite their attempts to KILL Muslims. It was not tens of thousands, I guarantee it. It's not a coincidence that the two countries you mentioned are Pakistan and Egypt, two very poor countries, bad litteracy rates in both those countries. I bet you tons of people did it in Palestine too. In Dubai? Nothing. Saudi? Nothing. Kuwait? Nothing. Qatar? Nothing. Oman? Nothing. I find it extreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeemely hard to believe Araft said he'd execute anyone who recorded celebrations. Any links or anything like that? Not impossible, but the chances are slimmer than an Olsen twin. Christians haven't recently been in such a situation for me or you to judge.
ive been in richmond va the past 3 yrs... raised in houston texas... currently in blacksburg... definately not in the ME. but i go there often. its not being narrowminded, its called having an opinion, or maybe even having a different point of view.
you know crazy people use that excuse here all the time. Andrea Yates killed all 5 of her kids because she believed god told her to. If God hates someone so much let him do his own wet work. I think it's pretty sad that you wouldn't even question his order and that you would "happily" murder someone.
I said passengers smartass. You could care less about World economy as long as your (America) own ass is not on the line as well. All I could say to the rest of your post is that its bull****. It's a war of religion, and money is needed to fund it. Your president's connection to religion is very well documented. Didn't he once say everyone but Christians will go to hell? You could promoting your Western culture... You make it sound like it's in great shape. Have you taken a look at your local newspaper to see how many shots are fired, how many people do drugs, how many alcoholics, and how many mentally ill people there are? How many illegitimate children, how many divorces, how many single parents? How many school shootings, how much TV violence, how accepteable disrespect has become? You're trying to make the rest of the World that way, when you have your own problems? Don't you think the whole world is better off if you focus on improving YOUR country before going out and telling people what to do? You need to stop gushing over how "well" your Western system has worked. Those countries (Afghanistan and Iraq) aren't any better today. They were both FAILED attempts at improving those countries. Again you stand on your poor knowledge of Islam: Muhammad was illiterate, he couldn't write. He also was not a pedophile, he didn't "touch" his wife at a younge age. It was customary in the past to partner someone in their mid-teens. Up until a hundred years ago, it was still happening all over the world. Jeez, his first wife was a 40-yr old widow. Yeah, he's a real sicko .
If it's done right, the parents can't force her. Unfortunately, it's not always done right. You have to understand that the priority in Islam is worship. That is the reason for our being, according to Islam. To keep this worship going, you are supposed to have as many children as possible (yes, I know there's a word but can't remember it)... So really, marriage is about two things things (in order): 1) Procreation, 2) sexual satisfaction. Everything else falls in line with this. You need to love your wife/husband, because it provides the right atmosphere to raise healthy children. You need a job to make money to provide for your family, the more money you make, the more children you can have, which is the motivation. In a marriage, the one who is best at nurturing between the 2 should stay home and nurture, and the one who is better at providing shleter and food should go out and work (see Adam Smith's theory of work specialization). You see the cycle? I fully understand that you may find the reason for our being (worship) a little (put the right word here), but who am I to question my creator? He could've just not created me in the first place. But he gave me an opportunity at heaven and I hope to take advantage of that opportunity by following his rules.
You wouldn't understand, because I don't think you, as an atheist, will ever understand how to out all your faith in trust into what you believe. That man was obviously suffering some mental illness. You're an atheist. But if one day a supreme being proved to YOU, outlaw, that he is yoru creator, and he controls your path to heave/hell, then wouldn't you follow his orders? Should I pull out a passage describing hell for you?
i'm an ex-catholic. i've heard more than I need to about faith, trust and hell trust me. if god wants to send me there then fine whatever. i'd rather go to hell than kill someone for no good reason. if that's the path to heaven then i'll pass. Andrea is a woman but why is her god a mental illness while yours is a divine message?
The problem lies with your ego, thinking you will tell your creator, whoever that may be, that you will not do what they want even after coming into existence through his grace. I know exactly what you're thinking. I remember hearing people say exactly what I'm saying and thinking "this guy is brainwashed".... It just makes sense though. If you create a robot, and it doesn't do what it's told, you will eventually dismantle it. If it slaps you in the face, you will make sure the dismantling is painful. (We're assuming very sophisticated robots ofcourse).
your parents created you. you wouldn't be here without them. would you kill someone if your mom or dad tells you to?
You obviously haven't heard enough about religion. I really hope you could grasp the concept of hell. Try burning yourself. Seriously, right now. Then imagine your whole body on fire. Then imagine you never burn to death, but your body keeps regenerating the cells and recreates the sensatino of the initial burn over and over and over again for as long as you will be in hell. "I'd rather go to hell"? By this statement you clearly don't understand. Hell is the last alternative. It's the last straw. Every single human being has a threshold for how much they're willing to hold onto something, and hell surpasses that threshold for all human beings. There are people who will kill people for money. Everythign has a price, monetary or otherwise. The extremes of heaven and hell are beyond comprehension. The concept of hell is such that there is literally nothing, no emotion, no illness, no deed that is worse that\n going to hell. Because Andrea has no proof that God spoke to her. If he did speak to her, impying that God and heaven exist, then she did her duty and went to heaven, and the people she killed will serve their fate as well. Why is death such a big deal if you're going to a better place? It's hard for you to understand because there is NO better place for you. If Andrea was just mentally ill, then God will judge her, and the victims will be rewarded accordingly. If there is no God (AstaghfurAllah), then everyone is screwed.
Your parents didn't create you. They are the device by which you're born. They didn't create your soul, and no one created the originals (Adam and Eve). Aside from that, my parents aren't supreme beings, so their choices are subject to scrutiny. They are humans, like me, and are not all-knowing.
I think it is problematic that Muslims think of themselves and humankind as robot servants. Sane, we have brains for a reason, we need to use them.
