We had our civil war. So did France, Russia, England and many other developed states. If the end result is that the people of what is now called Iraq, an artificial conglomerate of different 'tribes,' get self determination - can we say that outcome is bad? On what basis do we deny their own right to fight for self determination? There will be casualties - that is for sure - but should we have forgone our own revolution against the dastardly redcoats because there would be casualties? I think not. Your thoughts?
If the US is for true self-determination without foreign interference, why is it still sitting its ass over in Iraq?
I totally agree, let's get a workable government up, and leave the country, we can still supply the group we want to win with weapons. DD
OK let me re-address. Would it ever be possible for the US to completely detach itself from Iraq in an effort to let the Iraqis self-determine their own future?
Of course I am. It is a serious question - not a statement. What do you think? Is a 'civil war' worse than living under a dictator? Our forefathers didn't think so, the French didn't, the Russians or English didn't. Explain your answer please.
Some people say it is rude to answer a question with a question. This again is not an answer to my question. Would you care to answer the question, please?
It is not a statement - it is a question. Therefore I need not explain anything first. I am asking your opinions. I have given the primer for the conversation -Americans, English, French, Russians, Spanish, and many many many others fought civil wars against despotic regimes. Is it bad that the Iraqis might do the same? Please explain.
Thanks for the enlightening answer. Please explain why you would rather be under a dictator than have civil war for self determination.
Under the provision that no foreign powers should influence Iraq's internal affairs, I'd say why not let the Iraqis decide for their own future. But I bet that would be impossible given the enormous stakes at hand for many players. Excuse me for raising another question, if by self-determination Iraq opted to have an agenda to destroy Israel, would the US stay with the neutral and non-interfering principle? If not, how can the US be opposed to Iraqi people's self-determination?
of course not. the death of hundreds of thousands of civilians isn't bad. especially when we triggered it. good riddance.
