Vspan sucks. He hasn't shown me otherwise. Trade him for a 2nd round pick and get Jared Dudley or Ty Lawson(if he comes out)

I don't know if Cassell would have gotten more minutes or less minutes but JVG would have rode Olajuwon the same way Rudy rode Olajuwon.

Hakeem Olajuwon at that stage in his career and a bunch of role players= playoffs

Dream made every coach look better than they were. :)

he did. he orchestrated the Kenny Smith, Otis Thorpe pick and roll.
And the team had a good record without Dream (injured by Bill Cartright).

    No, sorry that's complete bullsh-t.

JVG could have easily signed a veteran guard off the scrap heap or stuck with Derek Anderson. In fact he actually did to filll out the Roster with Rick Brunson.

But instead he decided to stay with Luther, a rookie. In fact, Luther got consistente minutes from day 1, BEFORE THE INJURIES.

    Look at his game log.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/gl.cgi?player=headlu01&year=2006

He played 13 minutes in his first game and was playing 29 minutes by his fourth game. Look at the box scores. McGrady, Wesley, Anderson, Alston were all healthy..... but Luther was playing

"JVG won't play rookies" is a myth, just like "Luther only played because of injuries" is just another stupid myth that JVG-bashers like to propagate. He will play ones that are ready to contribute. He went to Novak off the bench for the very first substitution of the year. He gave Spanoulis a chance to be the first guard off the bench back in Nov-Dec. They did not capitalize on these chances.

Just like the other myths that you propagate like "VSpan only gets to play with scrubs"....etc. ... repeating lies doesn't make them true.

    So, let me correct you:

Luther played because of injuries....LIES SUCK

so basically you are creating a circular argument like usual, right luffy?

Go back and look at the game logs

    T-Mac 2005-06 game log

    Luther 2005-06 game log

Luther played like 40 mpg when Tracy was hurt and he has 28 in his SECOND GAME after Tracy was hurt.

Everyone knows injuries create opportunity...LUTHER TOOK ADVANTAGE!

Luther was playing before McGrady was injured.

He was a rotation player from the very first week. He became a starter after McGrady went down.

Basically the "JVG hate rookies" crowd is down to the argument that Luther Head should have started over a healthy McGrady - because that's the only logical augmentation of his playing time which could have occurred.

Why does it have to be all of one thing, or all of the other? Isn't it possible that JVG played Head because he kept making his shots, and that Head's opportunities were also increased by the injuries? Is it so difficult to find the middle ground? I think it's pretty obvious that the fact Head was a rookie didn't have any real impact on JVG's decision to play him.

So, since McGrady was injured BEFORE THE VERY FIRST GAME !!!!!!!! I fail to see your point.

McGrady tried to gut it out but had hurt his back before the first game.

    Again, this is hypothical Sammy.

LOOK AT THE BOX SCORES. They are available in the game log

Tracy was out the first few games - Luther was playing 13-15 minutes

Luther's first big game was AFTER MCGRADY CAME BACK

Game 5 vs. NJ Tracy plays 38 minutes. Luther plays 29
Game 6 vs. Bos Tracy 29 Luther 20
Game 8 vs. SA Tracy 39 Luther 19

Aside from games 1 and 7, in which he did not play. Luther was a regular member of the rotation from game 2 onward no matter who was healthy or injured.

The line you are pitching...is straight up crap.

PS - you are banned from ever mentiong Sam Cassell after the "V-Span is more NBA-ready than Sam Cassell!" line.

A this would be the case but once Sam realized what was happening his strong personality would prevent the situation from happening! He would embarrass JVG no end till JVG made room for him to get on the court and show his stuff! Sam would not be deterred by the ways of JVG he would go over his head and gain allies such as Les and CD and the local and National Press & TV, till JVG just to save face would crumble under direction from the ownership.
If JVG just kept him on the pine Sam would have been out of here in a flash, he hada great desire to play and entertain!

No matter how u look at it, its a known fact that JVG would not give rookies much playing time, especially at the point.

Last year, Wesley played the majority of the point, so you can't compare Luther and Cassel's rookie years.

Maybe we wouldn't have won a championship that year under JVG, but I believe he would have won more championships than rudy with that core.

Yes, this is true no matter how you look at it, expecially if you have your eyes closed.

Many Rocket fans were wondering was Cassell that good? will he be any good post Dream/Rockets?

    Answer:
    2005-06:
Averaged 17.2 points, 6.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 34.0 minutes per game…appeared in 78 games (75 starts)

Oh, Sam is 37 years old

This is crazy. Luther Head was a rotational player from day 1. Did he get more minutes because of the injuries, absolutely but he would of been a big part of the rotation regardless. Doesn't anyone remember how hot he was from 3 point land at the beginning of his rookie season? And if I remember correctly, JVG started playing Luther as a backup PG.
