If he doesn't I think that it will show his limitations as a coach. Every one knows how good of a defensive mind he is, but a great coach adapts to the players he has, not try to fit square pegs in round holes. Running J Howard and Mutombo out there to start and doing the same playse will be putting square pegs in round holes.

He has two long range shooting fowards sitting on the bench. This team is now going to have to go to a drive and kick, instead of a dump down in the post.

Yao being out is a major blow, but JVG's in ability to adapt could be the Rox major downfall.

There is no question he has to if he wants to win games. We can't be playing the same half court offense. Now it is all about scoring in transition since it is easier than facing a tough half court defense. This team is going to have to drive and kick to the shooters.

Now is the time we might want to get Vspan in the game to attack the basket. Novak in the game to shoot those kick passes.

Battier should still be an option in half court. He showed that last night until he got tired. Bonzi too, but it is obvious that until he is back to full strength he will struggle in back to backs.

Head and Alston will end up getting a TON of shots and will probably be asked to do a lot of forcing of the action. This really isn't their game. Of course it would fit Mike James to a T....but that's another story.

Attack the basket...and bombs away from the 3pt line.

its time to think who will take his place

its time to think how to get rid of Alston

its time to seriously think what to do with tmac

and its time to pray for Yao, he is our guy for the next 4-6 years

Definitely. JVG might be stubborn, but he's not stupid. He knows he has to run more now that Yao is out. And given Alston's open-court pedigree, it might even suit him better.

Alston, Head, Bonzi, Spanoulis. They all arguably function better in the open-court than a traditional half-court offense.

So the only time I see JVG slowing the offense down, is to perhaps give Juwan some touches on the low-block, or Bonzi some post-up opportunities.

I don't care if JVG has to regress to a mid 90's Cavaliers style of ball,They just have to hold down the Fort for 6 weeks,it can and it will be done!

It's going to be hard to adjust the style of play for a team that is incredibly untalented and sucks.

He's going to have to. No choice at all really. He is going to have to adjust to his personnel now. Hopefully McGrady and Bonzi can learn to play together.

if JVG can pull a suns style of play it would be awesome to watch. Sadly, I don't think it's possible. I do know that we need T-Mac back and healthy

And yet he'll get all the blame... seriously, this team was built around 2 phenominal superstars... its a given that they will SUCK without them.

The Suns "style" of play is useless unless you have your stars running it... if they're still winning 15 in a row with Shawn Marion and Steve Nash out, give me a call.

That's all that JVG can do is put square pugs into round holes!!!
He has already shown his limitations by his inability to develop and use a great SPOT UP THREE POINT SHOOTER in Steve Novak and his inability to develop V Span into the Rockets Game, Remember V Span is the Greek player who scored 22 points in the World Champs last offseason and in doing so eliminated the USA
We are going to have to move towards a TRUE inside outside game where most of the Points are scored from the outside, sort of like Phoenix type game.

Did you hear what was said at halftime?

"The Rockets 'offense' is not going to change."

Did you hear the post-game press conference?

Mr. Van Gundy blamed the loss *on the defense*.

As the old saying goes, denial ain't just a river.

Nick, Come on that is a fairly bad argument, JVG had no choice but to play Luther due to all the injuries.....and even after the draft he was on record as not really wanting Luther, because he was an undersized two.

I think JVG should run all his plays thru Mutombo, just like Yao.

It's not as bad as the argument that JVG ruined Frederic Weis by not playing him, which is the mainstay of the "JVG hates rooks!" crowd.

If you are reading my posts and thoes of others you will no doubt know that the only reason that JVG was forced into playing Luther Head was because of the injuries and JVG just had to use him! Head was always a winnner and if this situation hadn't occured he might have lost that spirit due to JVg not playing him! :p
