I know I'll be crucified for saying this, but Yao and Pau are statistically very similar players. They put up virtually identical numbers each year. I know Yao has a whole lot more potential and is on the floor a whole lot less but there stats are remarkably similar. I'd really like to see Yao pull away from Pau this year, but so far it seems like they're going to have another similar year. Thoughts anyone? Ones 7'6 and the other is 6'11. yao's stats are improving as every year goes by it seems, whilst gasol's have dropped off from his 2nd year. the only thing the same is there both white.
stop looking at stats and look at the effect each has on a game...yao must be double teamed to be contained or stopped, which opens up alot for his teammates. gasol is a good player, nothing more, yao is a star, gasol is the focal point of his offense, yao is second fiddle to tmac....nuff said
Both are developing players. Yao has a bigger impact on game simply because of all the attention he gets on offense. Not to mention he is a center and not many good centers out there, while there's plenty of good/great PFs. Yao also has more potential.
i think gasol has a lot of talent, but just isn't concerned about being a good all-around player. his rebounding and defense has dropped off severly the last 3 years or so. yao is continuing to get better on both ends of the floor. you have to go with yao being the better player, hands down.
Yao has a built-in superstar trait that Gasol doesn't. The minute Yao steps onto the court and into the paint, he changes the game. Gasol doesn't necessarily do this. Yao is 7'5" and 300 lbs. (or whatever he's at now). That is tough to go over, tough to go around, and tough to move. He changes opposing defenses and alters opposing offenses. He may not have much stamina and he may not be the next Olajuwon or Shaq, but he is still more than Gasol in that respect, and this is something stats don't necessarily show. As a comparison - look at Mark Eaton's stats. His biggest claim to fame was his blocked shots ability. That doesn't effectively reflect just how much of a force he was in the paint just by standing there. And he's not as mobile as Yao although he was roughly the same size.
Some of their numbers may be similar, but there is a difference. Yao earns his with his play. Gasol gets alot of his numbers from flopping and whining like a little b****.
i have no clue what point u are trying to make... Can u translate what u just said here from bigbodymoe to engrish since i'm chinese
ummm.....I changed my mind, I was going to try to write about this topic. Instead, Here's a dancing banana.
shouldn't the conversation first assertain IF Yao is better than Pau Gasol? a pretty irrelevant thread really. I did try to add some good points but then thought why are we doing this now? it is not like we have just played the grizz!
Pau is better?? If rockets offered Yao for Pau, will you do it??? You wont do it but Jerry West will do it!
If Pau has ever been manhandled in Yao's way, he would have been staying on the sofa at home watching Rox-Grizz game and carressing his career-ending injury.
