I'm with Amigo but check out bounce, just saw they have a great month to month rate at the moment: http://www.bounceenergy.com/
By best I am assuming you are asking who has the lowest price because otherwise they are all the same since they do not actually maintain the grid and produce the power...they just sell it and bill you for it. http://www.powertochoose.org/
I use Gexa and everything has been great since I made the switch from Reliant. They are so much cheaper than reliant. My bill is almost 40% lower this summer than it was last summer.
CenterPoint is not the same thing Direct Energy. CenterPoint is the transmission utility company that owns all the substations and transmission/distribution lines. Direct Energy is just a retail provider like Bounce, Reliant, etc.
x2. centerpoint deals with and bill you for gas, not electricity. by the way, summertime is the worst to renew and shop for electricity since it's the peak season and rates are a bit higher. But besides shopping for the lowest kwh, also remember to compare how much each provider charge for monthly minimum usage fee, that's gonna tag another 10, 15 bucks to your bill. Rest of standard taxes and government fees are pretty much the same everywhere.
*sigh*. CenterPoint is both an electric utility company that owns all of the hardware involved in transporting electricity from generating plants to customers and also a gas utility company. They are not, however, retail electric companies who just are basically money service people that don't own anything.
whitefence.com same thing as power to choose. they're all the same. get the cheapest. i just switched from spark energy to txu bc it was a little cheaper. pay around .08 now.
I signed on with Amigo Energy when they were running their one year contract low rate special. I am saving tons of money, too. So glad I did.
Direct. That's not quite true. The REP handles customer service and some are more capable in that regard than others. Tier 1 service companies can do more things themselves, where the others will refer you to CenterPoint to take care of them. For example, an expedited move-in can be faster with Reliant Energy than with Backwoods Energy. Also, some companies have good websites and others kinda suck. And, in times of stress, variable customers for the little guys might see their price go up more because the company can't sustain as many losses, and you might go POLR if your REP goes out of business. I still recommend focusing on price though.
