Ok! Back in September I signed an 18 month contract to get free installation, free DVR receiver, and $10 off a month for 10 months ($100 back), and then I purchased a nice 32" LCD HDTV. Now they have an offer for "NEW" customers only, where if you sign a 18 month contract youll get a free HD DVR receiver (retail $320). Im willing to sign a NEW 18 month contract AND willing to pay them more a month then Im paying now, and they still say NO to giving me this deal? This BLOWS!!

I have a HD antenna I use to get HD on my local channels (Finals is nice to watch... never seen a Rocks game in HD though  )

Does this make sense to anyone else? Even though Im not a "new" subscriber I would be "renewing" my 18 freakin month contract!!!

[soap box]I've always disagreed with companies offering "special deals" to new customers yet, not extending the same to existing customers. You should take care of your existing customers first.[/soap box]

Sucks for you. I got two free HD receivers (one is an 'advanced' unit with two remotes that enables you to watch/record programs at the same time) and was able to keep the old DVR unit in another room.

Of course, my GE 1080i HDTV blew up (I mean LITERALLY blew up; the transformer, that is) and now I have to wait to have it fixed before I can fully enjoy the HD programming in the living room area.

But yeah, they're not easy to deal with. Their customer service is pretty much non-existent once you sign that contract. That's why I make sure I 'negotiate' my deal fully (no little details overlooked) and that way I know what I'm getting into.

Oh, and did I mention that I will be getting a "$20 credit" on each monthly bill?

But HD is great...I ain't never going back.

A couple of weeks back. I pretty much threatened to "go cable" and told them all the 'perks' the cable company was willing to give me just to get me to switch. They connected me to some guy who tried to 'sweet talk' me into an already good deal, but I got even more out of him.

Stand your ground, don't let them push you around, and if you're a premium customer like I am (roughly $160 a month for programming, including foreign language packages), they will cave in to your demands.

That's weird. Maybe it's because your still under the original contract. I don't know.

I've had DishNetwork for 5 years or so and have had no conplaints. I was like you in that I couldn't understand why they have no deals for existing customers. But, my wife called a few months back and they gave us a deal where we got a free DVR.

I know it's no HD DVR, but it was nice we got a perk while being a existing customer.

why would they want to give you that deal if you already are a customer? That would make no business sense. You are under contract already. Haven't you noticed the price difference between cell phones for new and existing customers? I think they have a deal somewhere in between if you are extending your contract though.

Should people be allowed to sign new 18 month contracts everytime a new promotion comes along?

Well, Id think a company would bend over backwards for you, if you are promising them to keep paying them a monthly bill for the next year and a half. I dont know, I guess thats just me.

Those deals are just to sucker more people into their services and hope they don't leave when they jack the prices back up. When they jack the prices back up, they make the money they discounted during the promo period back. Once they've got you in, most of them probably couldn't care less. Some of them do give you the new deals, though.

this is what u do...if your contract is up, cancel your service. And sign a new contract under a d/f number such as your cell. ;)

Yeah DoD, I just called again (5 times already), and he gave me a deal of:

$149 upfront cost for the HD DVR
After it's setup, $50 mail in rebate ($50 credit to your account)
Then, $10 back for 10 months.

So in the end, its the same price (or cheaper by $1) then it is for existing customers rather than NEW!

BTW, he told me this offer for existing customers is good through AUGUST. So anyone out there that wants to switch to HD, join the bangwagon cause its starting NOW.

Which brings me to my next problem... I have like 70 or 80 shows on my DVR now. Is there cables I can connect the DVR to my PC to transfer the saved programs over? I have a live in g/f and the only way to get her to agree to switch is if I can save all her programs lol

Congrats! Maybe a different service rep and/or persistence is the key... :)

Or just sign up for a new service since most companies are more than happy to pay for the number switch for new customers.
