I really would like to get both of these guys, they would be the only thing we need to fill up the roster on this team with quality players.

NVE could be easily had for the LLE, now my question is how can the Rockets acquire DA, if at all possible?

I like Van Excel, he's a clutch player. Cassell like.

I wouldn't want to acquire both. Our backcourt is crowded enough already.

I'd like Derek Anderson, Van Exel is too streaky for my taste

Needless to say, this would mean that we have to either trade away/cut at least 2 guards from our roster, so how would this work if at all feasible?

We've got like 4 DA/NVE threads going at once.

Sorry, but I really have zero desire to see NVE as a Rocket.

Never have liked the guy. Yeah, he can shoot, but I just don't care for him.

Now DA on the other hand, I remember a game against Potland last year when all the trade rumors were swirling around us and him, before we got James, and I really thought DA would be a good addition. He has the look of an intelligent player and mature human being about him.

I wouldn't mind Anderson but that was only if we got an undersized PG. It looks like Stoudamire will sign with Memphis so with our current starting backcourt of Sura and Wesley i'm fine.

Van exel, doesn't he have a degenerative knee disorder? aren't we looking for athleticism? with sura, james and head we have enough depth, unless someone is gonna come in and start i dont want to add more depth to the poisitoin with age.

I would go for Jay Williams he has the highest reward. If he were able to play like he was before he got hurt which is a very real possibility. He would be an absolute steal. His shooting, mental game, and passing shouldn't be affected by the accident and those would be the number 1 things we would be looking for. The risk is minimal since he is a unrestricted free agent with very low compensation since he is trying to come back from a bad injury.

IF I were Carroll Dawson i would be all over him. If he doesn't pan out we still have Vassllis Spanoulis in greece who will probably be here next year.

I wouldn't mind having both of them, but I rather have Finley over Anderson.

I agree, now that DS is out of the running, an upgrade at the 2 would be great. I'd love Finley, but I see him going to Phoenix to play with Nash. DA is more realistic, with Wesley/Barry off the bench. He could also spell T-Mac occasionally at the 3. Sura starting again for rebounding and toughness is fine (can't ever have enough of that IMO) with James and Head off the bench. Will he take the LLE though?!?

    Yao/Deke
    Swift/Howard
    T-Mac/Bowen/DA
    DA/DW/Barry
    Sura/James/Head

    Not bad at all...thoughts???

Problem is we're still stuck with Baker, Moochie, Ward and Spoon the Whale. If you add those 4 to your current depth chart, we're 1 over.

if we Allan-Houston someone, doesn't that free up a roster spot?

I bet we cut Spoon for the amnesty savings. We will be several million over the $61.5 million luxury tax with the signings of Swift, Barry and Deke.

Derek Anderson is likely going to join the Lakers according to hoopshype.com.

Seems like Damon Stoudamire is going to the Grizzlies and it seems that he does not want to take a payroll cut to join the Rockets and Portland are not interested in a sign n trade with the Rockets.

Possible free agents we could land for our PG possition:

Brevin Knight: My first choice. He is a pass first, shoot second point guard.
NVE: My second choice. Good shooter and a good passer.
Jay Williams: My third choice. Risky, but might be a perfect fit for future is he is healthy.

Cant think of any other free agents that we might be interested in.

Is there anyone without a long history of injury problems available?

Why has Derek Anderson fallen out of favor with Portland? Why does he have a falling out with every team he's on? He left the Clippers when they wouldn't give him the money he wanted. Then he left San Antonio when they wouldn't give him the money he wanted. Now, he's got the money and Portland is ditching him.

    Indeed.

I don't want either of them. The only name out there that may be worth a shot is Jay Williams if he truly is recovered. Miami was listed as one of his possible teams, and after the trade they should be out of the running.

Damon Jones also comes to mind. He can hit the outside shot.

All things considered, I think we should trade Wesley and a pick for Gerald Wallace and call it a season.

Sura and James can handle the PG spot for the time being if we pull that one out. In a couple of years, maybe Head and Spanioulis could actually become our PG's.

And after all, Moochie is tearing it up at Fonde... :D

maybe it reflects on the type of person he is?

You know when you want a girl and get her it doesn't seem as good as you once thought.

I do not want another back up on our team. We have plenty!!

Because he has become Bob Sura (has some decent skills as a combo guard but lost most his athleticism, is injured a lot, is an inconsistent shooter) without the competitives and mentality of a solid role player like Bobby has?

DA would be way down on my totem pole as another guard. I'd approach Spree, give Houston or Kittles a workout, explore lots of things (maybe sign Glover or Hansen on the cheap), before approaching Anderson.

If NVE would sign for the vet min I'd take him. If nothing else cut Ward and add him, it wouldn't count towards are salary cap or lux tax to do so. If NVE can help at the point it is a bonus and then you can give Sura some 2 or back-up 3 minutes, but you wouldn't want to count on NVE at this point.
