...after dealing Gasol to the Fakers? WTF? It's just pisses me off how the Fakers got so lucky to get a quality player and all they gave up was garbage.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Wallace_(NBA_general_manager)

Memphis received Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, the rights to Marc Gasol (Pau's younger brother), and 2008 and 2010 first round draft picks.

    Kwame - garbage
    Javaris Crittenton - Arenas b****
    Aaron McKie - retired
Marc Gasol - only quality player in the trade
2008 1st rd pick - Darrell Arthur - future bench role player
    2010 1st rd pick - ?

gasol quit on the grizz and was sulking. I wouldnt have sent him to la, but maybe la was the only team willing to give up a 1st(crittendon),their best prospect, and take on the max deal, and 2 more 1st rd picks.

Might as well...it's not like the Grizz Pups were going to contend for a while regardless. They got SOME value out of the trade, instead of letting Gasol walk for nothing or play and not give 100%

Umm yeah, what value? Just his brother was the best value out of the trade.

Gasol wasn't going to take the grizzlies anywhere, but it is ridiculous they gave him away for pretty much nothing. Marc Gasol was a big unknown at the time.

Kwame was a big expiring contract too -somewhere in the 8 million range I think...

I thought it was a terribly one sided trade too but expiring contracts are valuable

Marc Gasol will be as good or possibly better then his brother in a few years so I'd say the trade, while pretty horrible at the time, came out to not be as bad for the Griz. Gasol, Arthur and a productive role player(late 1st) doesn't seem as bad as it did a few years ago.

Only reason people still whine about this damn trade is because it was the Lakers who Pau was traded to.

Unknown? You mean Spanish league MVP the year after Scola. Hate on Wallace all you like but he had some good drafts plus the Randolph acquisition.

Cavs got Shaq and Jamison for free, by comparison, Lakers gave up Marc Gasol otherwise the Gasol combo would be unstoppable and they could have traded Bynum for Bosh and a PG.

    Just think about that lineup.

But that trade was made when Marc Gasol had as much NBA cred as David Andersen. Everyone had no idea he would turn out so good. Its not like Marc Gasol was some hot commodity, the Lakers picked him in the late 1st round.

Would you be ok with the Lakers trading David Andersen for Pau Gasol?

The uproar wasn't just that he gave up their best player for peanuts. It's the fact that he didn't even shop around to try to get a better deal.

I mean, Morey did some highway robbery just a few months ago. But nobody is accusing Walsh of gift-wrapping his best asset to Houston because Walsh did try to talk with several teams for the best deal he could get.

Actually the scouts had been, and still are saying, that Marc is the better player and has alot of upside.

The trade that Memphis made to the Lakers is about the same type of one that Morey is going to try pitch to the Raptors for Bosh.

    Lakers / Gasol
Expirings: Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie,
Prospect the rights to Marc Gasol (Pau's younger brother)
1st Round Picks: 2008 and 2010 first round draft picks.

    Rockets / Bosh pitch
    Expirings: Jeffries, Anderson, Taylor
    Prospect: Jordan Hill
1st Round Picks: choice of 2 out of the 3 (Rockets 2010 selection, 2011 Rockets/Knicks swap, 2010 Knicks pick)

Raptor's GM Calangelo can either take those assets (Hill + 1st round picks) or let Bosh walk for nothing or try to find a team that offers a better asset package. I bet he won't find a better deal.

I think it's more because they handed LA another ring for a lollipop.

The big difference is that Gasol wasn't a free agent.

This trade happened during the middle of the season, weeks before the trade deadline. Handing Gasol over to the Lakers without making them give up any important piece of their rotation instantly turned the Lakers from a team that was losing in the first round every year, to a team that may make the finals for the third year in a row.

Yes but where is the uproar about Cleveland getting Antwan Jamison for nothing?

It's time for people to move on about this. Memphis ended up getting Marc Gasol who has turned out to be pretty good.
