Weird, given that this is not at all what the article states. Did you even read the article you posted? Here, I'll give you the one line summary:

The department ruled that white voters in Kinston will vote for blacks only if they are Democrats and that therefore the city cannot get rid of party affiliations for local elections because that would violate black voters' right to elect the candidates they want.

Right or wrong, the ruling is based on the idea that *white* voters will only vote for black candidates based on party ID. It has nothing to do with black voters voting based on party ID. It seems your inability or unwillingness to actually comprehend what you post has gotten in your way again.

actually not, the two concepts are not in opposition to one another. both assumptions, white folx racism, and black folx stupidity, are equally offensive.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like the lone, whooping, wild Injun riding bareback on an old paint in a 1930s western, shooting arrows into the circled wagon train known as the D&D. :D

Every time basso opens up a chum-bucket of race bait, I ask myself - where does it come from? - fully knowing the answer of course.

The way this story is written makes no sense to me, particularly the line about white voters.

In addition, when you Google this topic, you have only stories by the Washington Times, Fox News, and a bunch of wingnut blogs.

I'll sit this one out until we know more facts or a reputable source weighs in.

    I noticed that too

Which made the misrepresentation of what it was saying all the more bizarre

Regardless of what is offensive, the article only talks about white voters. Please point to where you got this claim:

several things are offensive about the DOJ's actions, not least of which is the assumption that blacks will only vote on the basis of party ID

You're the primary source for the other offensive claim.

Don't the first two sentences of the article reference black voters?

It references black voters and protecting their rights under the Voting Rights Act. It doesn't make or infer the claim that black voters only vote based on Party ID.

Neither the article or the DOJ ruling mentions anything about black folx stupidity and the act has nothing to do with the intelligence or lack of black voters but addresses racism.

You're the one who wrote "Black voters too dumb" and even if it is equally offensive as racism that the intelligence of black voters isn't at issue except to you.

Not surprisingly, basso has since disappeared. It seems to leave us with two primary guesses: he's expressing his own racist prejudices, or he lacks basic reading comprehension.

I think there is a very important issue that has been side tracked which is the validity of this aspect of the Voting Rights Act at this point in history.

In this case voters in this locality felt that there was no need to continue partisan elections while the DOJ disagrees on the basis of protecting minorities. The problem though is apparently the majority of minority (no pun intended) voters in that locality felt the same way. I think this might be a situation where the use of Voting Rights Act might not be warranted.

or he went to put the kids down, and pour himself a nice cognac.

or maybe i'm just a racist, although this glass of pierre ferrand is a nice high ambre color, and i'm enjoying it immensely.

you do run away when you get called out. You never responded to my John McCain question about him admiringly quoting Mao during his campaign.
