The entire Blazers team was bowling last night at the place by Memorial High School. Lots of people got autographs and Rasheed got mad about the attention. Just neat info I thought Id pass along. ------------------
You forgot your usual : ------------------ "Ive seen more class at a Pig Humpin Contest ." -- moestavern19 makes headlines again, and in the process leaves little doubt as to what Saturday nights in his hometown of Lompoc, California are like.
Rasheed had a right to be mad. I wouldn't like it if people were always bothering me everywhere I went. Give the guy some time by himself. ------------------
SFR, Thats bs, every job has drawbacks. For celebrities it is the fans that hound you. If he wants to be alone he shouldn't be in a public place. That is the only knock I have against Bill Russel. He got paid big bucks to play a game, and then he refused to sign autographs. The fans pay the players salaries, the least the players can do is try to accomodate them. It is not like we are asking them to do something hard, just write down your name, especially for kids but for everyone else as well. ------------------ Don't come in Bullard's house!
I agree Hydra, I'm just saying from his perspective, it's gets very tiresome to never be able to go out without being hounded, and that's probably why he got upset. ------------------
The one statement I always hate is "The fans pay their salaries", the fans DO NOT pay their salaries! The fans money is only a small percentage of what the owners actually give the players. And no just because we're fans DO NOT give us the right to hound them anytime we want. Yes the least they can do is be considerate but the least the FANS can do is be considerate themselves and give them their space. They're not robots, they're human. They may not be playing basketball without the fans, but we wouldn't be able to watch basketball without the players, so cut them some slack. ------------------ Dream a deadly Dream. . .
Well who pays their salaries then. Ticket sales is spurred by fans. TV revenues is certainly also driven by fans. Merchandise selling is fan based. Arena profits come from taxpayers who are fans. The only situation I can think of where the fans arent directly involved in paying their salaries because of their love of basketball is in a case when an owner loses money, in which case he pays salary out of his previous investments, but of course, even here, the fans help the owner lose less money than if the fans werent involved at all. When you are in the public spotlight, ESPECIALLY when you are one of the best NBA players in the world, playing on a great NBA team, and you are young and moving into your prime, and on top of all that, the fans ARE the ones paying your salaries, you have to expect to be mobbed when you are out in public. Especially when you go to a very public place like a bowling alley ------------------
Pippen probably SUCKS at bowling too. But he always has Kemp's fat ass to blame for his problems. ------------------
The Oregonian recap of the Rockets-Blazers game is centered around how the Blazers went bowling together the day before the game... This win right up their alley Nice scoop, Ziggy ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
TV revenue is produced by SPONSORS, and many sponsored have customers OUTSIDE of NBA fans. Just because we pay to see a game doesn't make NBA players our slaves to do with whatever we want. We have to show them respect to. And just because they are celebrities doesn't mean they aren't human and don't deserve at least a LITTLE privacy. I mean, just because you're a celebrity, you're not allowed to go to a public place? That tells me that they are at the mercy of overzealous fans, and I just don't see anything right in that. What I find funny though is that people get on athletes, saying they are just like anybody else and they shouldn't get any special treatment, yet they want the athletes to give THEM special treatments, like giving up their only free time, sometimes with family and friends, to constantly sign autographs and talk to fans. That's good sometimes, but not all the time. ------------------ Dream a deadly Dream. . . [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited February 28, 2001).]
Yes, but there would be no TV sponsors if there were no NBA fans to watch the ads. There may be customers for the sponsors outside of NBA fans, but the NBA doesn't see any of that revenue. The only money that the NBA makes is a direct result of the fact that there are fans watching. Hell, all entertainment is fan based. That is the basic idea behind it. The person doing the entertainment is being paid by the fan/observer to be entertained. That is really all the NBA boils down to, entertainment. ------------------ "all your base are belong to us!"
