    David Frost joins al-Jazeera TV

Sir David will broadcast from the channel's London base
Veteran UK broadcaster Sir David Frost is to join Arabic-language TV station al-Jazeera, the network has confirmed.
Sir David is to appear on al-Jazeera International, the pan-Arab news network's new English-language channel, due to be launched next spring.

The Qatar-based channel said Sir David, who broadcast his final Breakfast with Frost programme for the BBC in May, would be among the "key on-air talent".

Sir David was quoted as saying he felt "excitement" about his new role.

"Most of the television I have done over the years has been aimed at British and American audiences," he said.

    Distinguished career

"This time, while our target is still Britain and America, the excitement is that it is also the six billion other inhabitants of the globe."

Frost's interview shows have attracted world leaders

Sir David notched up 500 editions of Breakfast with Frost before bowing out.

An al-Jazeera statement called Sir David "the only person to have interviewed the last seven presidents of the United States and the last six prime ministers of the United Kingdom".

It said: "(He) has joined the line-up of key on-air talent at the new 24-hour English language news and current affairs channel."

Launched in 1996, al-Jazeera is best known outside of the Arab world for carrying exclusive al-Qaeda messages.

Sir David first came to prominence on television in the early 1960s, when he presented the satirical BBC show That Was the Week that Was.

    Channel expansion

He presented a series of news and current affairs programmes in the UK and America.

Frost's interviews with Richard Nixon after Watergate were revealing, much acclaimed and achieved the largest audience for a news interview in history.

He worked for ITV breakfast station TV-am in the 1980s before rejoining the BBC in 1992.

Last month al-Jazeera launched a children's channel as part of its expansion plans.

It also has a sports channel and one dedicated to covering live events without a presenter.

That will be real interesting. I guess the math programs would go something like this:
10 infidels are going to the market. If a roadside bomb kills 4 of them and wounds 3, how many infidels must still be brought to justice?

Al Jazeera is a joke. I went to their website yesterday and there were over 6 front page articles bashing the US in opinion pieces.

I fail to understand why that means they are a joke? It means we get to hear a lot of people who can't stand the heat, start whining, but why does that mean the U.S. is a joke?

A news agency trying to pass off their biased opinion pieces as fact is a joke of a news agency. The fact that they are influencing millions of Muslims in the Middle East is downright frightening.

I didn't expect such a strong statement against Fox News from you. Though I doubt Fox News is influencing millions of muslims in the middle east. :D

But back to Al Jazeera. This is at the bottom of all of their opinion pieces.

Oh give me a break. Bottom line is that millions of Muslims take their word as truth, and it's highly irresponsible to broadcast so much opinion-based and obviously biased work to these people who think it's accurate. Their CYA statement at the bottom doesn't do squat.

A lot of people took the govts. word about WMD's as truth too, and even called Scott Ritter a traitor and Saddam lover, because he dared to say that there weren't any WMD's there.

Al Jazeera is one of the few news sources in the middle east that people can find news critical of govts. in the middle east. Check out the article about Somalia and Yemen violating the embargo sending them more. Because Al Jazeera is independent and free from censorship it is some of the most unbiased news available there.

LOL! It's so much fun to see how insecure bigtexxx and gwayneco are about this new Al-Jazeera English-language network.

At worst it'll do nothing more than offer another POV of world events to the Western viewer. Don't worry, Fox will still be around...

hahahahaha - I look at english.aljazeera.com quite frequently. Let me tell you something - it's a piece of crap. Worthless horse schit. Completely biased, opinion pieces are passed off as truth.

I can understand that you might like it, though - it does paint the US in the worst light possible.

Kind of like how fox news is influencing millions of conservative americans by telling them they are not misguided? :p

Edit: Never mind, saw someone already made that statement.

I think you're lying (which wouldn't be a first), show me proof of this or you're a liar. Your credibility is on the line, thanks in adavnce...

No, the Bushies paint the US in the worst light possible, you should really take it up with them, not me. But I understand your anxiety about Al-Jazeera, because millions of people will finally start to see the news from the 'other side's' perspective, which you and your fascist buddies don't like, since you are anti-freedom and anti everything that doesn't conform to your views.

As I have said in the past, at worst it's another perspective on world's events. It's too late anyways, Al-Jazeera has conquered the airwaves whether you like it or not, although I am pretty damn sure this English-language network will be much more watered-down than the Arabic-language one.

Don't like it bigtexxx? It's OK, Ann Coulter/Hannity/Limbaugh will still be here for you.

Ya'll see this: Al Jazeera Hires Josh Rushing
    __________

Perhaps hiring people like Rushing will give Al Jazeera the credibility it is sorely lacking.

Here are the front page articles today on Al Jazeera:
    1. "Is Bush on a devine mission? Or is he a war criminal?"
    2. Why’s Iraq’s constitution illegal?
    3. The myth of “War on Terror”
    4. The Iraqis are losing hope
    5. Israel has long spied on the United States
    6. U.S. prepares for a permanent military presence in Iraq
    7. U.S. hegemony vs. Arab survival

If you can't see that these are not the most blatant examples of a biased point of view and inserting opinion pieces into a website that is considered to be fact by millions of arabs, then I don't know what to tell you. You're clearly biased by your religious views.

Your claim that AJ is harmless is particularly scary. These clowns are over there convincing people to hate America - those could be the next band of terrorists flying into buildings, bombing subways, blowing up nightclubs and other horrible activities that Muslim terrorists are so well known for these days... Scary indeed.
