I have a credible source tell me that disney worlds next expansion could be in Katy. We're the front runners in 2008. How do you guys feel about this?

yeah, supposedly Disney bought the land where the renissance festival is located out past magnolia years ago, and are gonna build a disney world there. i've been hearing that rumor for at least 10 years now.

not gonna happen... nor do i want it to.

am I having a flashback to 1985? Am I still in highschool in Katy?

Your credible source just lost all it's credit. Not gonna happen.

My Dad told me that this rumor has been going around Houston since he moved here in like 1977.

So while it would be neato to have a Disney park in Houston, I don't think its going to happen anytime soon.

    Ditto.

    1) The RF participants would all go ape **** if they didn't have somewhere to and play midevil dress-up (not trying to be smart, but the RF has a HUGE following that would never let this happen)

    2) While the RF grounds are big, no way are they big enough to support a Disney theme park. Plus, there is so much open land and acreage out here, Disney could in theory just find land and start from scratch.

    3) No way would the infrastructure out here support a theme park. To get to the RF, you have to travel at least 7 miles down a windining, one lane country road. Hell, they have been fighting for years to get a dedicated freeway out to Tomball. I doubt getting one another 25 miles past Tomball to the RF area would work.

    4) Most importantly, to the best of my knowledge, the one motel in Magnolia, the Magnolia Inn, has about 12 rooms. :)

I've heard out past the Cypress area near Fairfield.

I've lived in Katy all my life and heard several theme-park rumors over the years. Wheres the amusement park? Wheres the waterpark? Disneyworld's not gonna happen...

what you just described could have been said about the land disneyworld was built on at the time disney purchased it. it was out in the middle of a swamp and there were literally NO roads to get you there. certainly no hotels/motels in the area. disney changes all that. they provide a massive investment to an entire area where they buy land dirt-cheap. other investors follow just to be a part of it. it would be great for our city...it would likely move up plans on mass transit, for example.

having said that....i remember hearing these rumors when i was about 6, i think. i'm 31 now.

Thing is....no land in the Houston area is dirt cheap. I've seen people selling for more than 30 grand an acre in the Magnolia area.

land is far cheaper around here than it is in most regions of the country. and disney is a far bigger institution with much more pull and much greater resources than it was when it was buying the land for D-World.

I thought Houston was one of the cheapest areas in the country myself.

Unless Disney is planning an indoor park, I don't see how you could expect a return on your investment with the summer weather here in Houston. It's too freaking hot.
