If I were Morey, I would do everything in my power to move up in the draft to get DJ Augustine, he is everything the Rockets need.......

We already have an undersized guard in Brooks. Do you think that Augustine is the next Iverson? If you do, then sure, why not! But next season, to develop him is going to take time in the NBDL. He won't see light behind Brooks, behind Jackson, who will eventually be traded. And where's the defense? He's Deron's dream to face in the playoffs! We need an athletic FREAK! But someone humble enough to hang around, not like the dumba$$ Green who screwed it up for himself. For when Alston is gone, and Jackson's gone, and Brooks is still our back-up, then it might be a good idea to have Augustine, like I said, if he's like Iverson.

No we don't. I don't get why everyone is so high on him. He's 5'10", average speed, not quick enough to make up for his size like Brooks or TJ Ford. Decent shooter, nothing better than we already have. And he's a poor defender.

He doesn't bring anything we need to the table. Why waste any effort on this guy when we could possibly stand still and get CDR(though he might be about 5 spots to high for us) who fills several needs for us.

I don't think the Rockets will need to move up significantly to get him, he's projected at one pick ahead of us on nbadraft.net. I agree with you that he has a lot of talent, and seems to have that "it" factor, but his small size may limit what he can do on the NBA level.

If we could move T-Mac in a trade with the Bulls, we could probably snag him at #9. Maybe T-Mac, Rafer, Brooks and the #25 for Hinrich, Gordon (re-signed), Gooden and the #9. Of course, we don't know the exact position of that pick until the lottery.

I think if he declares for the draft, he'll be long gone before #24. Draftexpress is a much better mock draft site imo.

Why does DJ have to be the next Iverson to be a good pick? The one thing we need at PG is a floor general who in above average shooter. To say DJ wouldn't see light behind Aaron Brooks and Bobby Jackson tells me that you probably haven't seen DJ play all that much.

    A tad undersized? Yep
    Average athleticism? Yep

But talent wise...ball handling, passing skills, and ability to run an offense is what I'm personally looking for and he brings more to the table than a 35-year old Bobby Jackson. Brooks will be a great kid to bring off the bench, but I don't think he'll be anything more than that.

Texas sophomore point guard D.J. Augustin will declare for the NBA draft and forgo his final two seasons of eligibility, the university announced Wednesday.

    Ford: Who's In, Who's Out

Underclassmen will transform the 2008 NBA draft. Chad Ford takes a look at who's going, who's staying and who's on the fence. Story
Augustin won't sign with an agent -- yet. But that's only as a precautionary move to make sure he doesn't get injured before the June 16 withdrawal deadline before the June 26 draft. The deadline to declare for the draft is Sunday.

Texas' staff isn't expecting him to return.

Augustin was a consensus first-team all-American and an academic all-American. He led the Big 12 in assists at 5.8 a game and averaged 19.9 points a game (second in the conference) for the Longhorns, who lost to Memphis in the elite eight.

The Longhorns won a school-record 31 games and a share of the Big 12 regular season championship. Augustin won the Bob Cousy Award as college basketball's top point guard.

Augustin is projected as a lottery pick in the NBA draft.

I hope they dont make the mistake of drafting this kid.
We already have an undersized pg in Brooks, who IMO is going to be a better pro. DJ was exposed by Rose. He couldn't handle him and he couldn't score on him.

I really hope the Rockets don't draft DJ Augustin. Not what this team needs.

And I'm surprised how many people misspell the kid's name considering he plays for Texas - it is Augustin not Augustine.

That's why Rose will be the #1 or #2 pick in the upcoming draft, DJ was never expected to completely handle Rose (in fact, no one in the NCAA, including Kansas could really handle Rose). But I wouldn't let that stop me from picking him up.

BTW, don't forget that DJ is only a sophomore and led the team in scoring and led the Big 12 in assists despite losing Durant. He'll only get better.

DJ is a nice player, but do we need another small guard? Given our lack of size in the back court, I would pass on him.

Hey now, I picked Yao Ming.....nothing wrong with that one.

Ask New Orleans about small PGs.....

Who starts at PG for Texas next year? I like Mason as a big PG, but I read they have a Euro kid that redshirted or something.

And, is there someone left they can pick up for that scholarship? All I've seen comitted for next year was Jacovan Brown.

Ya...we have a PG from Turkey on the bench. We also picked up J'Covan Brown from Port Arthur, he is more of a SG but he's probably the highest recruited player we have on the roster right now.

Dogus Balbay was expected to get serious PT this year but hurt his knee, I believe, prior to the year and was redshirted. What really sucks is he right now is scheduled to miss ten games next season due to playing in a tournament in which other people got paid and he didn't. It's BS, but that's the NCAA for you.

Maybe this scholarship and extra PT gives Texas a chance to make a better run at one of the few recruits still out there. I think we'll see some Mason, Balbay, and AJ splitting PG duties at Texas. (Yes, I think there SHOULD be no reason for Abrams to stay in the draft.)

And what would we give up to get him, esp if he is a lotto pick? Unless it's just cash, I don't see what would be worth it. I really don't think he'd be some awesome improvement. If for some reason he falls to the rox pick, cool. But I don't see why there should be any sort of desperation to get what will probly be another mediocre pg.

There is a rumor circulating that Devin Ebanks (5 star SF recruit that de-committed from Indiana) will sign with Texas this weekend. If true that would be a nice consolation prize for losing DJ.
