This is not a knee-jerk thread. I understand the entire coaching staff runs off of the same playbook, but it seems that more plays are being executed successfully on behalf of Kelvin Sampson than Coach McHale. Watching the last few games, it seems that coach Sampson is wayy more engaged than coach McHale also. Screens are tighter and the offense is more open. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Coach McHale....quite frankly, i kind of like the guy as a coach...

Although not crisp, the last few games that Coach Sampson has ran, I like the growth in what he is doing.

    Verses Detroit = Win
Verses Miami = Loss by 3
    Verses N.O. = Win

I'm not saying I want this guy as an official head coach, but it's good to see some promising stat lines on behalf of our team, and AT LEAST, he is playing Terrence Jones.

Sampson is useless. Do you still remember the comment he made after last loss, that he'd like to get Harden the ball in better position, so he doesn't have to start attacking with 3 seconds on the clock.

Guess what, that's basically what Harden did late in the game today. The players just ignored him, and played the game by themselves.

I like Sampson. I feel much more relaxed now about the rotation than when McHale is in charge.

He seems to have reverted back to not playing more then 4 players off the bench.

That being said, he isn't as in love with Delfino as McHale and the offense seems to at times try to move away from hero ball we saw with McHale. Don't know if that is just the effect of the team playing together more or if it is Sampson.

Either way, I have no faith that they will be able to create legit offensive schemes to best utilize our players so, meh to both.

Well man, I can understand his logic behind this which makes perfect sense. It's useless for anybody to attack the basket with only 3 seconds on the clock, regardless if you're Lebron or Vasillis Spanoulis...

Im glad YOU feel more relaxed about it now.

What would have been different tonight about McHale's rotation than Sampson's? Sampson played Jones like 8 minutes 3 games ago and now he's some rotation master?

Look, Sampson is executing nearly the same gameplan as McHale would be. They are a coaching UNIT. Bickerstaff, Finch, Sampson, McHale all work together on a system & gameplan they agree to use. Sampson isn't doing anything magically different.

If they look better its because A. they are starting to build chemistry B. The bench is finally contributing, and C. Players admitted that they are motivated to playing for McHale for inspiration.

Plus, going toe to toe with the world champs will do quite a bit to a young teams confidence.

Well...I guess I'll ask this question too. Why doesn't anybody like McHale?? I see some areas in which he can definitely improve, but is he really that bad??...this Fire McHale crap didn't start until last season's playoff run meltdown...

I mean come on, it could be worse...we could've had...

LOL. People act like McHale doesn't talk to the rest of the coaching staff everyday just because he's not there.

Around this time last year, we were having the same issues and we were utilizing pretty much the same gameplan. Why would it be different with McHale out?

Just because he's not there doesn't mean out gameplan has changed. Right now this team is starting to gel and get their chemistry together as pointed out by dobro.

Last year we didn't start off hot but by the 10th or 11th game, we were on a winning streak and that team started playing well together. And that was McHale's first year while coming off a lockout with no training camp.

If it comes to execution, I'd put put more stock to the team getting used to each other than the coaches.

No he's not. He played <next man on the depth chart> to send a statement to Patterson. Because Patterson was playing like a p***y. Once Patterson decided to actually play, Terrence Jones got a seat on the bench.

    And the defense flows worse.

We already saw from last year that McHale is a HORRIBLE coach.

We don't know that with Sampson, so by default, Sampson wins.

When did I say that he was a "rotations master"? His rotations are not way different but they ARE different. The way he plays Delfino, like someone mentioned above, is an important difference. He also rotates the guards differently. I can also point out that he sat down Aldrich for Smith as soon as he could. I bet you McHale wouldn't have.

Obviously... we don't have enough of a sample size when it comes down to it. I like what I've seen so far though.

I know they are all executing the coaching plan as a unit, and Sampson does talk with Mchale, but one thing is for sure. Sampson DEFINITELY is more engaged in the coaching process, and I think with a young team you definitely need that.
