Neo-classic soul songstress India.Arie got involved in music at the suggestion of her singer mother, but if her father had had his way, she'd be rocking the WNBA. India's dad is 7'4" Ralph Sampson, who along with center Akeem Olajuwon made up the Houston Rockets' famed Twin Towers. This dynamic duo turned the Rockets from a sub-.500 team in 1984 to playoff contenders in 1985 and propelled them to the finals in '86. But Sampson's bum knee would lead to his multiple trades and early retirement. And unfortunately the vertically endowed Arie has no intention of carrying on her father's legacy. "I heard I was a natural basketball player, but I don't like it," she said in 2002. "I never did. I'm not into sports, really. Writing songs and singing are above everything."

Same here. Being a fan of most things Ralph, I guess I'll have to give her a listen.

    Can someone post her photo?
(uh, Ralph was a Rocket... made The Shot... it's Rockets related! ;) )

What a surprise that Rolling Stone would make an error about a sports reference. :D

Funny, I was just listening on NPR about how Rolling Stone just hired that dude Stephen Glass... He made up stories that were supposed to be true, and now there is a movie about it.

I don't even want to know what kind of rationalization lies behind that statement.
