After resigning three months into his tenure as the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks, Gersson Rosas is returning to the Houston Rockets as executive vice president of basketball operations, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Rosas, 35, had spent nine successful years working his way to the top of Houston's front office before accepting the GM job with the Mavericks in July.

After working with owner Mark Cuban and president Donnie Nelson through the summer, Rosas became uncomfortable with his role and ultimately parted ways with the organization.

The Rockets had worked hard to try to keep Rosas while he was contemplating the Mavericks' offer, and Houston owner Les Alexander and GM Daryl Morey were eager to bring him back to the franchise. Rosas had played a major role in procuring the talent that re-established the Rockets as championship contenders.

Rosas will share the executive VP title with Gianluca Pascucci and share in the oversight of the Rockets' player personnel and scouting.

After a high school and college coaching career, Rosas joined the Rockets as a video coordinator and worked his way up through the scouting ranks. As GM of the Rockets' D-League affiliate in Rio Grande Valley, Rosas won two championships and reached the D-League Finals in three of four years.

Wow! I'd be curious to hear everything that went on behind the scenes with this whole deal.

The truth: Morey sent Rosas to spy on the Mavs organization.

No team has a better front office than the Rockets. I know Pat Riley does good in Miami, but man to say we are not that big of a market, we get things done around here!

I wonder how the minutes will work with the twin Exec VP setup. Will Gianluca Pascucci be able to work with Gersson in the same front line? Will Gianluca be disgruntled if he is relegated to 15 minutes off the bench?

Gianluca's role is now to write reports on next opponent.

Or Gersson could be Cuban's sleeper agent.

I'm guessing he didn't have much say in the organization since Cuban is basically the owner-GM there.

I think getting the Ellis signing was Cuban overruling his plans on building the team using Moreyball. He had little control of making his moves and thus resigned after a cup of coffee.

    Ecstatic he's returning.
