Like I said last year, if Altuve is able to stick, he has a legitimate shot at 3,000 hits. He came up at 21, he has a high rate of contact, and he is going to have to hit for a solid average to make it in the big leagues.

was that on mills? the guys in the booth calling the game were so perplexed tat they said it might have been on lowrie wanting to make something happen. I was like WTF also. It would be like your big man dominating the boards only to take him out in the fourth and watch the opposition just go to work on the glass.

I have to believe that Lowrie did that on his own. Perhaps if it were the 7th or 8th inning in a one run game (even then I would disagree) it makes sense, but to have your #5 hitter, who has been one of the two best hitters on the team, bunt in that situation is a bad decision.

If it was Lowrie, it was a bad decision on his part.

Mills said after the game that it was his (Mills') decision. Thought it gave them best chance of getting one run, and they were trying to play for an insurance run rather than for the biggest inning.

jesus. an insurance run in the 5th inning of a 5-4 game. either he's the biggest idiot in the world (likely), or he can actually see the future, and knew that a run for either team would be hard to come by for the remainder of the game.

That was a bad call. I could understand the 7th or 8th, but with a shaky Harrell on the mound and a hot hitter up and only the 5th inning - bad call.

    LOL!

But to be fair, Altuve is a special player. There is no question about that now.

I don't mean steer this conversation away from the original topic, but Pujols' slump is really becoming a story. I know he had a similar slump to start the season recently (last year maybe?), but it's getting to the point now that he is going to have to absolutely rake for the rest of the season to get anywhere close to his career averages.

To be fair, Bogey's talents lend themselves to the 2 hole. Even though he hasn't hit well, he still has a decent OBP. If Altuve gets on, it leaves a bigger whole on the right side of the infield for the lefty hitter.

I still think Lowrie would have been the way to go, but maybe he is hoping it will provide a boost for Bogey.

In an ideal world, I think Lowrie's extra pop on his bad makes him good at 2. I think Altuve can alternate between 1,2,5, and 8 depending on what the situation is. Who's been hot, who's pitching etc.

OK, not a terrible move. Bogey does walk a lot, in fact he just walked in the 1st.

J.D.'s slump concerns me more than who is hitting at the 2 right now.

Well, there's a way to offset that horrid on-base percentage... send one out.
